Thousands of soccer fans loudly booed the United States national anthem when it was played at Mexico City's Estadio Azteca before the two countries faced off in Sunday night's World Cup qualifier game.
Thousands of fans jeered and refused to stand as the Star-Spangled Banner played over the sound system, making their dislike of the United States known.
While Mexican fans booed during the national anthem, they celebrated their team's one goal of the night by hurling slurs towards American fans, who slung back insults in retaliation, according to the Miami Herald.....

This has been going on for years. During Bush years they behaved terribly shouting and praising Bin Laden and whats worse is even in LA and in California the predominantly Mexican crowds behaved as badly.

Just read description of Millwall’s (We are Millwall, No one likes us, We don’t care) stadium, The Den, in London. Visiting team fans are warned not to wear team colors, are segregated to one section of the stadium, are not allowed to leave until the Millwall fans are clear and gone) and walk to the train station on a special, isolated path, escorted by police. So the Mexicans sound pretty tame.
It has been going on for years, like you said. The fans have even thrown balloons or baggies filled with urine at the US players when they’ve played there in the past.
