Who Will Be Britain’s Next Prime Minster?

The Conservative party under Prime Minister Theresa May has failed to win an outright majority; this means that she has the option of either plodding along as a minority (with little hope of getting a Queen’s speech or a budget passed), or of forming a coalition. It is fairly clear that neither the Labour, Lib-Dems, or Independents are likely to get into bed with her party, so that leaves the Northern Ireland’s DUP (the Democratic Unionist Party), who won 10 seats. This would give a very slender majority (just over 326). But what price will the DUP exact for their support?

The leader of the DUP, Arlene Foster in an interview has already stated that: “It will be difficult for her to survive given that she was presumed at the start of the campaign, which seems an awfully long time ago, to come back with maybe a hundred, maybe more, in terms of her majority.” So it would seem that they would be unwilling to form a coalition with Theresa May at the helm. The DUP are real (small c) conservatives who back a Full Brexit and a return to Grammar Schools (which were one of the prime movers in social mobility until the disastrous Comprehensive system that is now in place came into being). If they were to enter into a deal, it is very likely that they would have some sway over who gets to replace Theresa May.

I oft times complain about our two party (for the most part ) system of governance. Until I see the plethora of parties in the parliamentary systems. They can keep it.

Better yet I’ll continue to be a peaceful anarchists (or would that be a libertarian??)

This should be a wake up call to DC Republicans who despise Deplorables and our agenda. May was reluctant about Brexit and seems to have only cared about an old, despised Conservative agenda of only wanting to protect the elite. She arrogantly went for an unnecessary vote, probably to tighten the grip of the old conservative agenda in its destruction of the middle and lower classes. So, many Britains voted for someone dangerous who only Bernie Sanders could love.

The message to Republicans who are enabling the coup: Shape up or a lot of you won't be re-elected. If you won't work hard to save the sovereignty of the US, why should we vote to keep you in power? Do these traitorous 'pubs seriously think the dems will protect them if they lose power?

Just as in the US, the arrogant elite would rather lose elections than restore sovereignty and well being of their citizens. It's hard to imagine how this ends well.

What was May thinking calling for an election?
I am ahead and want to risk it all to get a few more seats.....
She could have kept the seats and just persuaded other members to vote the way she wanted. Good ol bribery works too.

They bigger question is; when will the PM be a Muslim? 10 years, 25 or 100?

Within 10 years I think. Immigration and higher birth rates among Muslims will change the nature of the UK forever.

Minnesota will most likely never have a smaller number of Somalians than they have now.

The difference is that in a parliamentary system, the legislative majority controls the executive. The Prime Minister is a Member of Parliament. And there is strong party discipline.

Here, with weaker party discipline and a clear delinieation between the legislative and executive branches, a multiparty system could work better than it does in a parliamentary system, because you don’t need to make coalitions after the election. (Yet you make them issue by issue.)
