200 million could sign it, and it wouldn’t make any difference.

~415 of his 435 co-conspirators want him there, so there he will stay.

False and as wrong as the idea that anyone competent to the position would voluntarily accept it. Ryan did not want a thankless job guaranteed to send the nutballs into orbit with rage.

The job of Speaker of the House is what one makes of it. Witness the career of Newt Gingrich who created a Republican majority in the House and then, as speaker, became nearly as powerful as the president of the United States for a period of time. Look at the power Chucky Schumer is exercising from a minority position in the Senate, imagine a man of his talents as Speaker of the House in Ryan's place and imagine how he would move his agenda.

The problem is both systemic and personal.

Too many conservatives thought that if they elected a man Photoshopped in a Superman costume astride the globe, he would come in and "drain the swamp" which is Trumpspeak for reforming the system. They succumbed to a weakness in human nature which is to whore after a charismatic personality, a man on horseback, a Napoleon believing he can do no wrong as he does good.

These are often the very same conservatives who shrink in horror at the idea of reforming the system by resorting to the provisions of the Constitution which provide for reforming the Constitution, Article V. Instead they have substituted cultlike adoration for a man when our founding fathers knew, as much as they respected George Washington the man for his character, that the system must guard against the venality of human nature. They understood that you need good people in a system designed to protect itself against the evil men inevitably do.

Yes, our swamp needs draining, which means our Constitution needs to be restored to its original intent. That can only be done through Article V. Yes, our representative democracy, our constitutional system, can endure only if we are a moral and principled people. This is a two-pronged equation but neither prong calls for a Marvel superhero in a Photoshop costume. We damn Paul Ryan for the very same thing that Donald Trump is doing but Paul Ryan is following his agenda while Donald Trump is abandoning his. I do not defend Paul Ryan, he has to go, clearly. But I will not deceive myself and let Paul Ryan be substituted as a scapegoat for the failings of the man on horseback.

Want a change in House Leadership, then ‘primary’ a dozen or so Tuesday Group members.

How many of US live in those purple districts? I can answer that. Damn few of US. Certainly not enough of US to primary the very first one of those traitors. It just sticks in my crawl that we can still carry the notion that this is going to be resolved at the ballot box. It's pure poppycock!

Most of the criticism of Trump is because he is NOT the “Man on Horseback” not because he is too much of one. Impatience with the speed of taking on the problem will not make solving it easier. Trump has taken on very powerful forces and the most difficult task he has ever undertaken.

Gingrich was not nearly as powerful as the President. I doubt that he would be able to do much more than Ryan in these circumstances. Don’t forget that Democrats even as close as 1996 are completely different than the rabid lunatics which make up today’s Democrats. Most of the party’s positions now would have been rejected then.

Schumer only has to throw wenches in the wheels to appear powerful and he has and will as long as the Senate allows filibusters.

As to returning to the Constitution, I can only hope that we can resist the soft fascism into which we are sliding. No one is held responsible for this since very few know anything about the document. Most think it means the government can do damn near anything as long as they perceive a benefit.

That is the whole point, he has not taken them on.

That is just false. He has directly challenged many of the politically correct lies which are destroying this country.

That must be why the Agency is preparing for reductions in force and major changes in the programs. For example, those dealing with climate change have been stopped.
