Compromise Spending Bill Includes 2,500 More Visas for Afghans in Program

WASHINGTON -- After the U.S. Embassy in Kabul in March froze the interview process for Afghans who had supported U.S. forces due to a lack of visas, a bipartisan effort secured 2,500 more visas in the compromise spending bill up for consideration this week.

The special immigrant visa (SIV) program was established in 2008 to allow Afghans who had helped the coalition as interpreters to find safe haven in the U.S. The visa criteria were later expanded to Afghans who provided "at least one year of faithful and valuable service" in support of U.S. government operations.

Rep. Earl Blumenauer (D-Ore.), an original advocate and architect of the SIV program, and Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill.), an Air Force pilot who served in Iraq and Afghanistan, had urged congressional appropriators to include the same level of visas in the omnibus as were included in their legislation, the Keeping Our Promise to Our Afghan Allies Act introduced in March.

I guess you don’t trust them just because they helped as interpreters and stuff?

I’m too naive to make the judgement call on this.

If it was promised, and they helped us and are vetted, I guess I wouldn’t mind. I dont know lol

I’m indecisive these days!

Aren’t these the patriots that Afghanistan needs? Did the french offer visas to those who assisted the french during the US revolutionary war?

The problem is that we worked with Afghanis in Afghanistan aND Iraqis in Iraq etc and thought they were on board with us, only to have them turn on our soldiers and kill them time and time again-

It’s a tough call- We want to trust that they will never turn on us- but they are sometimes first and foremost muslims- something that can’t be overlooked- Yes we promised- under a liberal president- again- tough call on htis one-

And, at probably $20k each, another $50 million strapped to the collective taxpayer’s back. Decisions have consequences (and costs).

Muslims can never be trusted.
They are commanded to lie to infidels to advance Islam.
The primary objective of Islam is to dominate the world.
Submit or die.
Mad Mo made it so.

Were they FORCED to be interpreters? NO!

Why should they get a free ticket to the USA?

Yes. If they were interpreters for us and met their end of the bargain, absolutely.

Were they paid?

If I worked building BMWs in South Carolina, should that entitle me to residency in Germany?

Was someone trying to shoot your ass off there at BMW in SC? Were you selling German secrets to the US from that plant?

Once you’ve worked as an interpreter with a US unit in Afghanistan, you leave Afghanistan, or you’ll be hunted down and shot.

Then why would anyone work as an interpreter?

For the same reasons why they dumped tea in Boston Harbor.

Maybe it will make a difference, and dying like a man is better than living like a dog.
