The shutdown showdown seems like a wild train ride and the political aftermath is only just picking up steam. I think it is important to be clear about what the faithful few are actually fighting for (and against) during the shutdown showdown. Let me reset the framework in the simplest possible terms, so that we dont forget the essentials.
Our federal government, created by the States in 1787, was designed to be a limited and defined federal government. Not my words, but the words of the people who created it - easily researchable and verifiable.
James Madison (called the Father of the Constitution) said in Fed. Papers #45 that the powers (not rights) DELEGATED (a term repeated in the 10th Amendment) to the federal government are FEW & DEFINED and those that REMAIN in the States are NUMEROUS & INDEFINITE. Madison then tells us what those few powers delegated to the feds are he calls them external objects meaning the feds are limited essentially to FOREIGN affairs and then he further clarifies by saying they are specifically, war, peace, negotiation, and foreign commerce.
HEALTH INSURANCE, not falling in one of these categories, is NOT a power that has been delegated to the federal government by the States. One might invoke the General Welfare Clause, etc. but that would be a misapplication of the Constitution. For brevity sake, I will simply refer you to a full analysis on this issue, if you are inclined to be further educated on the proper application of the General Welfare Clause as given again by James Madison by reading this article The General Welfare Clause, Justification for Obamacare?
Since healthcare is not a delegated power, its regulation by the central government is an unconstitutional act. Alexander Hamilton clarified in Fed. #78, that no legislative act...

Shut it down. RIF all who are nonessential. That would be great.
Well so far Trump looks like he’s trying to avoid that happening.......but so what if it does?
It’s fine with me. Take a look at all the no essentials not at work.....and then start laying them off permanently
Ain’t no big thang, ‘cept fo’ da fact dat y’all gon’ downtown t’ join some ant-eye Trump rallys wif yo’ tahm off.
Barack Hissyfit Obama isn’t in office so maybe, just maybe the NWS website will remain online.
DJT should issue an executive order to the effect of no back pay for any government employees who are non-essential and have essentially taken a free vacation.
Shutdown was only deferred by a week, as the kick of the can was only a very short one this time. But come next time, the problems that had existed will STILL be there, and no real compromise is on the horizon.
As I understand it, shutdown only affects 17% of Govt workers?
The sun will come up
Tomorrow
Bet your bottom dollar
That tomorrow
There’ll be sun!
Power-hungry people took over the Judiciary and made it more powerful than the other two branches, even though they actually have no means to enforce their edicts.
Government attracts those who hunger for power. That is the essence of the problem.
Hmmm, let’s rank these in order of importance:
Your farmers shut down.
Your truck drivers shut down.
Your electricity shuts down.
Your water shuts down.
Your sewer shuts down.
Your garbage collection shuts down.
Your government/journalists shut down.
Ergo, all those folks in the first six are far, far, FAR more important than the low-T marshmallow and law major slugs located at the bottom line.
And, pretty good bed that those men and women in the first six would be much more efficient and productive in government than most of the slimeballs now there.
A gov’t shut down would be effective only if it would last for several years.
What a blessing that would be. Go for it.
The last shutdown was very expensive indeed. It costs billions to send people out to construct barries at vista points on highways alone.
“Shut it down. RIF all who are nonessential. That would be great.”
AND NO BACK PAY. That will bring the Democrats to the table, VERY QUICKLY...and on our terms.
Trump has SO MUCH LEVERAGE here it’s really upsetting to not see him use it.
Let them know their lobbyists and bill writers are FIRED!!!

Great rhetoric which confuses ‘non-essential’ with ‘un-important’.
Essential employees are only those who are required to protect life and property. IOW, firefighters, police, etc. Would you consider an employee performing testing on a new weapons system as ‘non-essential’? Would you RIF an employee processing VA claims?
Yes. The govt is bloated. To start RIF 10%. Most govt “workers” are slackers.
The last time there was a “shutdown,” 83% of the government remained open.
