The tribe says they are planning a "mixed- use entertainment and gaming district."

CATHEDRAL CITY, CA - The Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians announced Tuesday that is acquiring a 12.5-acre parcel in downtown Cathedral City, where a fire station now sits, to construct a casino.

The tribe, which did not disclose the purchase price, plans a "mixed- use entertainment and gaming district" at the northwest corner of Date Palm and East Palm Canyon drives.

The tribe said it will contribute $5.5 million to the City Urban Revitalization Corporation to replace the Cathedral City Fire Department's Station 411.

The exact location of the new station is still being finalized, according to city spokesman Chris Parman, but will be rebuilt somewhere near the current site and will serve the downtown and south city areas....

You have to admire how the Tribes contribute and how important they have become to local charities. Very, very generous. Looks like a good deal for that city. They get a brand new fire station looks like.

AS I understand it, Tribes own the water rights in Palm Springs, and surroundings. They make money on everything that goes on there. The water quality is unparalleled, like silk on your skin, like drinking elixir. I’ve always been happy in Palm Springs, felt grateful to the tribe for keeping the quality up. Haven’t been there for decades, heard it’s gone a little to the dogs….anyone know how the water is now?

The fire station used to be tribal land, right?

This tribe owns 95% of the land around Palm Springs. Businesses in the area can only get up to 99 year leases for their buildings. They cannot own the land beneath them. Any child born from this tribe is an instant millionaire. Went to several of the casinos in the area. The payout was horrible!

20 years or so ago I would agree with you. The water was just the best. Now it appears to be chlorinated and it's not so great anymore.
