Why the Democrats will Never Again be an Electoral Force
IWB ^ | Mark Angelides

Posted on 03/02/2017 8:48:32 AM PST by davikkm

Most democratic nations follow a system whereby two or more opposing parties vie for votes, receive a certain amount of representation based on their vote share, and spend their time trying to barter, cajole, or force through legislation that will either be better for their target demographic or ensure new votes in the next cycle. But what happens when the system breaks down? What happens when the purpose of power becomes the holding of power and nothing more? The Democrats have given up seeking votes; now they just want the power.

Article didn’t close the loop on the assertion made in the headline.

Don't count on it. The pendulum will never stop swinging.
I don't want Republicans to become complacent and take their voters for granted.
That's what the Democrats did.

Never say Never. And no one, except no one, can predict the future (except the Guy Above)

With that said, there are several possible scenarios where the dems could pull off putting another one of their kind in the White House.

Actually, this type of BS click bait reminds me of when obama got in, & the news was we’d went past the 50% of those pulling the cart, and we will never see another repub in the WH again. And the Dems were sayING we were ruined.

IT’S ALL BS!!

Not as long as there are “principled, single issue conservatives”.

I don't want Republicans to view politics as a career. Jim Bridenstein - who is excellent - term limited himself out of the House. We are losing a great Representative. But it is the right thing to do.

This article is (unfortunately) stupid and incorrect. We dominated this year and will dominate in 2018. We probably hold the White House in 2020, but we probably lose the presidency in 2024. That 8 year flip pattern has held for generations, with only minor glitches (maybe we hold four extra years with a 2024 win), and there is no reason to believe the cycle will finally change.

We need to assume we are likely to lose in 2024 and plan for that catastrophe. We need all 11-plus million illegals deported and comfortably settled back in their home countries before we lose the White House. We need Energy, EPA, Education, BATFE, and other unnecessary departments and agencies dissolved, not just reduced before that date. We need to absolute size of government reduced 20% by then, not just a slower rate of growth. We need Obamacare repealed and a distant memory, with the same fate for federal and state firearms restrictions. We need a sweep of judicial activists out of the federal judiciary with very few errors in their replacements. There is a lot to be done, and we need it all complete and implemented before the 2024 election.

The article just stops... and doesn’t complete the thought.

I would suggest that IF and it’s a big “if” Trump pulls off what he is attempting to...

ie. Steal the black vote from Democrats.

The yes, the democratic party is done without MASSIVE changes to their stands on almost everything.

Without 90% black support... blacks who by the way are NOT liberal, there isn’t even close to a majority which support liberal positions.

Agreed. Although rapidly approaching irrelevancy in the Executive and Legislative branches of both federal and state government, the Democrat/Left maintains a powerful force, at least for the present, in the judiciary, education and the media ... each of which President Trump — despite considerable opposition from members of his own party — continues to diffuse and defeat with either direct attacks or by expertly executed flanking maneuvers the Left as yet to counter with any consistency.

We probably hold the White House in 2020, but we probably lose the presidency in 2024.

Because Trump will be a victim of his own success. Once the big problems are solved and the economy is functional again, the charismatic "young Obama" the other side comes up with is going to seem a whole lot more appealing than the prematurely aging Pence.

I don't want Republicans to become complacent and take their voters for granted.

That is what the Republicans did in the last election, and it allowed an Independent (Trump) to run as a Republican Presidential candidate.

In this last election it nearly happened with the socialists/communists(dems) but that party stacked the deck against any outsider like Bernie Sanders getting their nomination. -Tom

Oh they’ll be back. There are no permanent majorities. At this stage in 2001 people were saying the Dems were dead and would never be back or at least not for 20 year. And in 2009 they were saying it about the GOP. The fact of the matter is we have a very distinct highly repeated pattern. The Dems WILL gain seats in the midterm (though probably not in the Senate, bad class for them), and then Trump probably wins re-election in ‘20, then the Dems gain a lot of seats in ‘22 (second mid-term bloodbath), and they get back the White House in ‘24. Lather, rinse, repeat. That’s how American elections have worked since the Civil War with a small handful of exceptions that always had the pattern reinstate itself rather quickly.

All glory is fleeting, and no party can hold power for more than 2 terms, with very few exceptions. The best Trump can do is drain the swamp temporarily, and get 2 justices on the SCOTUS. The last thing he should do is let Pelousi, Al Franken, Clown Schumer and the rest of the circus impeach and delegitimize us in the next 4-8 years. No more Mr Nice Guy (looking in W’s direction).

Correct. We have been swinging left for 50 years. Now we can start swinging back for another 50.

I remember in 2008, dems were saying that the republicans would never again be a national force. The memory of most voters is pretty short. After Trump has been in two terms they will be tired of republicans and will likely vote in a democrat.

Reagan took it to 12 years with coat tails long enough for the diabolical (though a very nice man) George H. W. Bush. Trump could do the same.
