The robber grabbed a pistol and some other items from the vehicle and started to leave.Police were able to arrest both suspects. As part of the investigation, Harrel's guns were seized and are being held as evidence. The sheriff of Telfair County, where Harrel lives, applauded his crime fighting efforts. I am extremely grateful that this fellow Telfair Countian was not killed or seriously injured during this violent encounter, and I commend him for having his own personal protection, and for being prepared to use it,The sheriff did not stop there. Sheriff Steverson showns gratitude to the armed citizen. He commends him for his actions, he then says he will find a way to make sure that Harrel is not left disarmed, even if he has to give Harrel one of his own weapons to do so.

I believe this is the first time I’ve heard of this happening.
On Friday, 3 February, 2017, 66-year-old Billy Harrell was being robbed in the parking lot of the restaurant he manages, the Ole Times Country Buffet. He was closing for the night.
... and had to take out the trash.
Wonder if the vic’s age and skin color was a coinkydink, or if the perps had a mad-on for elderly white guys...

Have you see a pic of the vic? Doesn’t look like he’s made of money. Now if the perps knew the vic was the manager, they might have thought he had the day’s proceeds on him. Or the perps might have wanted the vic’s ride. Still wonder, though, why they chose this particular vic.
When I was taking my “gun class” the cop teaching it said that if you were going to shoot someone, be prepared to lose your weapon for a long time, as it will be held as evidence.

My suspicion is that they knew he was the manager. The robbery attempt was at closing time.
I doubt they intended to take the car, because they left without any attempt to take it.
Most crime committed by black criminals is against other black people. Criminals mostly operate in areas they are familiar with.
They probably knew who the vic was, and that at closing time he takes the bank bag to the night deposit.

The Citizen is not the bad guy; he was living his life, minding his own business, when two thugs decided to intervene and cause him harm.
Both the Sheriff and the gun shop need to get about a hundred thousand letters of thank you’s, appreciation, and congrats for doing the right thing - from all over the Country.
They’re an example of what is good and decent amongst us.

Out of curiosity, just went looking for stats on elderly crime that includes info on the race of both vics and perps. Can’t find any data on that. Interesting.
I keep a $209- Taurus PT111 9mm in the car for exactly this reason, it’s accurate enough out to 7-10 yards, holds13 rounds & the cops can keep it for a year in an evidence room without my missing it...
