CA Dams Crumble While Politicians Fiddle in Nonsense
Canada Free Press ^ | 02/14/17 | Katy Grimes

Instead of cutting excessive spending areas, anticipate Gov. Jerry Brown will propose another emergency "one time tax increase" ballot initiative, which will turn into a permanent tax increase, followed by annual proposed tax increases.

California Legislators and Gov. Jerry Brown think their job is to stay in power, and that bills to further their leftist agenda are the vehicles. The Oroville Dam spillway breakage is proof of this.

While Gov. Jerry Brown and legislative Democrats have prioritized illegal aliens, refugee, inmate sex change operations, building houses for the homeless, transgender bathrooms, climate change awareness, and hiring Eric Holder to undermine the Trump administration, the Oroville Dam was crumbling. And they knew it. The San Jose Mercury News reported the California Department of Water Resources and 27 water agencies ignored serious warnings 12 years ago because they did not want to incur the extra costs. So they said the repairs were unnecessary.

Nothing new in the world about this story - politicians would always rather pay for some dazzly new (union voter-built) project than pay to maintain the roads and dams that "don't vote."

A lot of similar observations were made in this book, which predicted a lot of the disorder we're seeing in the Oroville situation.

This is another (as if we needed it) ‘Thank the NEA Moment’.

We are living in a completely dummied down society. THIS is what you get.

Senseless socialists/totalitarians. Living off the back of other peoples hard work or destroying others work. The fix is never in, but give them perpetual money to work on it.

Well, yes! And it has worked so well for them. For us, not so much.

Will this be the defining moment when California Dems come to their senses?

You don’t need dams if you believe Global Warming is real.

Whatever happened to Math and Physics in California schools and colleges? It is extreme folly to build the highest earthen dam in the world in an extreme seismic zone.

The story not being told is that because of the train wreak over flooded Cousumnes river in Elk Grove the main freight train line in the central valley is unusable. Amtrak also uses this track. We were assured that the track was inspected before the train went through. Yeah, right. Thank god it was a freight train and not Amtrak that went in the flooded river.

Because of this, all commuter trains between Stockton and the bay area have been cancelled over the Altamont, and freight trains are being diverted that way. Haven't been able to find out what is going on with Amtrak, but my guess is they are busing.

But luckily Jerry Brown is building a high speed train somewhere south of here that may someday be useable.

It depends which version of Globul Warming you use. It's got the greenies in a real twist if you push them for an answer.

Version 1 - The earth is going to get as hot as hell due to our CO2 and everywhere will turn into a desert.

Version 2 - Natural disasters will increase and be worse in both directions - too much water, or not enough.

Note that version 2 came along with the renaming to “Climate Change”, when the temps. didn't go up fast enough...:^)

Listening to the 97% scientists got CA version 1 and no spending on dam overflows.

The state is collapsing. I know, I live here. Our highways rank 47th in the country for quality yet we spend more than any other state. So the flooding that I have seen from drone videos of the Sacramento area show the devastation. And if Oroville Dam’s emergency spillway gives, this will cause massive flooding downstream. The state capitol will be under water

>>>It is extreme folly to build the highest earthen dam in the world in an extreme seismic zone<<<

The Dam was built Decades ago. I doubt they had the information available today about Seismic Zones. During that time the Dam has held up.

The issue is the State postponing required maintenance, not the structure of the Dam itself. The design was obviously state of the art when the Dam was constructed.
