Young people (which this prison guard wasn’t 22 years ago) are often apolitical. The year I got married, 1980, I believed the MSM about Reagan. I stayed home as I couldn’t vote for 444 days/ oil crisis Carter. 4 years later I voted proudly for Reagan. The wife and I didn’t discuss politics then. Over the years she moved towards the left and I moved toward the right. Now we have to avoid politics at home. It keeps our 36 year marriage alive to NOT discuss politics.
Two thoughts that I live by which I took from Glen Cook's "Garrett" series of books:
1. Never sleep with a woman who is crazier than you.
2. You should be sociable with unpredictable and dangerous people. For that matter, you should do that with anybody that you don't know. You should only be rude to friends you're sure won't slice you into cold cuts; that's what manners are for.

They’ve got to be weeded out immediately when the dating starts, if possible. Big problem, though, if political ideology changes mid-marriage.

Notice that they tell the story from HER viewpoint. It could just as easily have read “I was astonished that this woman I thought I knew, who I trusted, would vote for a vice-ridden, corrupt, demonic witch like Hillary Clinton. It made me question her whole morality, and wonder if her worldview wasn’t shaped more by delusion than reality.”
If she’s 73 now, they got married when she was 51.
They both look like aliens.

Those exact thoughts came to me as I was listening to a couple of my lefty in-laws bragging about buying weapons last year. Will I be forced to defend myself against these thugs? Scary.
A Conservative Republican married to a skanky “Democrat leaning toward Socialist”.
He should have just used her for sex and never married her.
I have never, ever in my 4 decades of adulthood thought I could live under the same roof as a lib. How couples do that is beyond me. I think that guy lost a lot of dead weight.

If this snippet is any indication, she has atrocious taste in tchotchkes and really enjoys drinking. Her wig is for a woman 30 years younger too.
I guess I beat the rush. I dumped all my liberal “friends” about 20 years ago during or after the Clinton catastrophe of 1992-2000.
So I don’t need to dump any over Trump. They are all long gone. No regrets. I don’t miss a single one of the brain-diseased commies.

I've often wondered the same thing myself, or at least how they managed to keep staying in the marriage as one became more conservative and the other drifted further into the liberal/socialist realm. I have several friends that are like that. I mean I can see getting into the marriage when both are younger and politics were a less important part of a relationship that was driven more by hormones than logic. 8>)
Oh, and how can being around convicted criminals for decades allow anyone to remain a liberal and “leaning socialist”???
Now that's a very good question. I believe the answer is that it is quite likely that a lot of criminals are likeable in many aspects, because a lot of them are probably con artists. They know how to get people to like them which protects them from being exposed, and often times offer assistance. Liberals/socialists are always susceptible to these types of personalities. Some conservatives are as well.
Not, "Until I might find something better" or "Until she does something politically that I disagree with". "Until Death Do Us Part" was what I remember.
Leaving a marriage over something as trivial and transient as politics? Pathetic.

Through patient point/counterpoint discussions, I have turned a number of “soft” liberals to the Dark Side. Revealing information the MSM intentionally withholds from their “reporting” usually cements the deal. Hardcore leftists, on the other hand, don’t care about the truth no matter what.
