My guess would be that he was a liberal at the time of his marriage. I have known more than one couple where both were liberals at the altar, then over time one became conservative, the other decided that ideology trumped commitment, and that was the end of the marriage.
I would remind you (not that you need reminding :> ) that to liberals, liberalism is their religion, and a liberal being married to someone who later becomes conservative is the equivalent of an atheist being married to someone who later finds Christ, or a Jew being married to someone who later finds Mohammed. As far as the liberal is concerned, sometimes, as Tevye put it, there is no other hand.
Notice there’s a prototype look about people who say things like that and behave that way? The dame on the plane coulda been its sister.
People who voted for BJ and his wife have a special kind of stupidity, hatred and intolerance. A sister, my stepmother and two oldest closest friends have said and done the most vile things and publicly treat my family and me with only thinly veiled contempt, at times as specifically as possible without (usually) mentioning names.
It’s been at least 10 years since I’d said anything political to any of them.

Hey, if this SJW fossil loves Hillary’s politics of inclusiveness and bringing in the third world, this guy could shove it in her face. He could easily replace her with an attractive Filipino woman in her mid-50’s. Who’ll act like a woman and he’ll be treated like a king. Instead of having to placate and do whatever to keep peace.
