I live in rural Virginia, on a good day I get 3Mb. (If it is raining maybe 1Mb) I would be happy with the national avg of 31Mb.

ROI is a lot longer in the rural areas, My cell service is not great but to put up a multi-million dollar cell tower would take several years to recover the costs. In a more urban area to cost return is much shorter. I understand why rural America is lacking in high speed internet. It is a cost thing. It is a price I pay for living in the country.

This is strictly an economic issue - whoever pays for it should have it. Nobody should subsidize anybody else. Period.

Otherwise, it’s welfare.

For those of us in rural, mountainous areas, the Internet option we have is satellite or 4G. Expensive, data limited and slow.

I’d love to see unlimited 20mb, let alone Gigabit.

I agree that internet should be brought to rural America, but gigabit? As was mentioned, installation is quite quick and easy as compared to urban areas. I can see small towns being bundled using gigabit nets, and that is probably what is in the details, rather than a single residence/location getting gigabit.
