I live near Lake Lahotan about 35 miles east of Carson City. Monday, we finally melted & rained away the 6” of snow we got last Wednesday. Today, we have snow again, but so far, in smaller flakes & lower amounts, but it isn’t stopping.

There are families who live near Sky Tavern in the Sierras who phoned out a video to the TV stations that appeared this AM.

They have been SNOWED IN their dwelling for the past 10 days. They said they had power & heat, and had plenty of food-—but that they had run out of wine. They weren’t worried-—but snow in that area has exceeded 9 feet already this winter. Last weekend, the winds & the snow were so bad, the ski resorts didn’t open. Too dangerous.

For me, it is just an inconvenience. Horses are wet, so fed them 150% of normal this AM & will do so again this PM. They need the extra calories.

I’, not complaining. Had a phone call yesterday from another rider who lives near Basin, Wyoming. She has had -24 for days. One cow calved early & dropped twins. One lived- one didn’t. The one that lived was born so early that it doesn’t have any hair coat. She has foal blankets & dog blankets on that calf, and after 10 days, it is doing OK.

So—for those of you who have a storm story-—TOP THAT! First time I have heard of a calf being born so early it didn’t have hair & I was raised on a dairy farm & have lived rural with my horses for over 23 years. She is pretty sure the hair will grow in. Mama cow is doing OK she says.

I have heard of sheep & lambs in the ranch kitchen due to late spring storms for years. That isn’t so uncommon.

Preppers don’t have a serious wine cellar?
