Bear Pranking

Would you this to your co-workers?

Bear!

Or not.

With friends like these, who needs enemies? Sometimes office teasing goes a little beyond "Go pick up a bottle of elbow grease" or "See if you can find me the level straightener", and delves into the pre-planned pranking. case in point: The "bear" milling around outside! On a construction site, seeing a bear probably isn’t all that far from the realm of possibility. I've never been one to tease somebody for having a functioning Fight or Flight reflex, though.

What do you think? Seen or done any good pranks lately? I'm sure we'd love to see some ideas… purely for scientific reasons, of course! See the prank here.

Airport flight line humor: Go get me a yard of flight line and also a bucket of prop wash. Thank you.

Most places will fire you for ‘horse play’. It’s a workers’ comp thing.

My neighbors are horses - about 6 females which are bred each spring - and we then get to see the 6 colts growing up. And believe me, there is horse play going on next door which is a lot of fun to watch!

“Go get me a yard of flight line and also a bucket of prop wash.”

When I got to my duty station I was told to go get a bucket of red and green striped paint. And as all post basic training idiots do, I went and asked for it.

Grew up with horses...it’s all fun and games until you have to muck out the stalls.

Yes, I remember in the Coast Guard having newbies get sent to supply for a hundred feet of shoreline, or waterline.

And then:
Some years ago, at a week-long cowboy shooting match, some of us were sitting around talking one night. The same range was used for 3D archery shoots, and they had all the plastic animals set out all over the range. There was a particular one, a black bear that was standing upright. After several rounds of adult beverages, we hatched the idea of getting this bear and putting it inside one of the outhouses. We were running one shooting stage in that area, so we could watch the fun the next day when anyone tried to use the outhouse. Folks would go over and open the door and step inside, and when their eyes adjusted to the dark they would see that bear standing inside the outhouse. (It was a large outhouse.) Reactions varied from laughter or cussing from the men, and we got a couple of good screams from some of the ladies. But most everybody managed to levitate themselves out of the outhouse, sometimes with some of their wardrobe undone. As the admitted instigator of this prank, I was threatened with violence from of couple of low-sense-of-humor types, but most of the victims had a good laugh once they realized that bear was just plastic.

Your turn to get the mail buoy. And by the way. They do have shore-line. It’s next to the spool of Fallopian tubing.

The new soldiers in our HQ Battery didn't know me from the next officer. During a field exercise, I'd ask a new arrival to get me a bucket of steam, so we could steam clean my jeep engine under field conditions.

After about 30 minutes, I'd give him the truth and gauge his reaction. If he took it in good humor, he'd likely be a good soldier for us.

A poor reaction didn't necessarily mean he'd be a lousy soldier, as they usually came around after having a chance to think about it, after a bit more good natured ribbing. They also learned that was the S-4's "calling card" on field exercises. I must have done it a dozen times. Word spread fast, that's why I had to find the newbies to the unit.

That little trick came to me courtesy of my stepfather, a Quartermaster Captain during WWII.
