My point was that going beyond the means to defend yourself,can cause you problems.

That was Bernie Goetz's mistake, iirc. He gave one of the perps "another" after he was already down. That came back to bite him.

The rule is, aim for center of mass, neutralize the threat, and then deal with the fallout later. Lawyers gonna lawyer.
