Nobel prize winning economist Joseph Stiglitz has some advice for Hillary Clinton: Tax fossil fuels.
Stiglitz, who is an adviser to Clinton, says taxing carbon would be the best way to address climate change -- and boost the U.S. economy.
The move would immediately lead to higher prices for oil, gas and coal. It would also hike the cost of anything that uses those fuels such as electricity and transportation. The goal is to force Americans to find alternatives that are cheaper and better for the planet.
Taxes typically hinder the economy, but Stiglitz believes this one would help.
"I think a carbon tax would stimulate the economy," Stiglitz told CNNMoney. He says it would lead many firms to remodel their factories and redesign their supply chains, which would generate jobs and growth....

“and boost the U.S. economy.” Nonsense. More climate warming crap.
taxing carbon would boost the U.S. economy?
Kinda doubt that.
Because you don't have a Nobel Prize in Economics.
This crap doesn't just occur to anybody, you know. It takes training.
Raising taxes does not boost the economy,....ever!
Someone should tell the “Nobel Prize Winner” fossil fuels are already taxed at multiple levels.
Reminds me of Jimmy Carter’s windfall profits tax.
Why does the “Nobel Prize Winner” economist want to take more money out of the end user’s pockets? As an economist he ought to know who pays the taxes on consumer goods.
“...and boost the US economy.”
WTH?!
How will my paying more for EVERYTHING going to boost the economy? Everything is delivered by truck after all.
This guy is a liar.
Is this the same Nobel geniuses who gave Muhammad Hussein Obama the Peace Prize?
Or just have him Google “Venezuela.”
You’re darn tootin’ it takes training. Takes a heap ‘o’ training and a whole lot of fancy book learning to sound like an edjucated talkin jack ass like this here Mr Whatever His Name Is.
If we had alternatives that were cheaper and better, we'd already be using them.
What we do have are "green" alternatives that are less reliable and more expensive. That's why you have to force people to use them.
If libs were serious about the dangers of CO2, they'd be the biggest supporters of nuclear power. We'd build a dozen new nukes a year, but libs are liars, so we don't.
Yep, and while firms are doing that, committing economic suicide in the process while consumers are rubbing two sticks together to ignite a flame to heat up bear dung, guys like Stiglitz will be lighting up their cigars with $100 bills inside of their 8 bedroom, 6.5 bath mansions, adjacent to the ocean and dock that houses their yacht and an acre of land that houses their private plane.
Joe can stig it up his litz.
As if one needed further proof that the Nobel Econ prize is as worthless as their silly Peace Prize.
He’d just sit there and explain that Venezuela could work, only if they implemented it differently.
Like is Chime ignores climate change, their products get a climate tax. If they pay their workers $8,00 per hour and no befits, then they pay and wage and benefit stabilization tax. Time to level the playing field.
