Amazingly, as I watched the various 'spokespersons' on TV, it became clear that the defense is 'everybody does it.'
Said with a straight face, no sense of shame, no hint of a sense of wrong.
"So many lobbyists, so much money, it's how the system works...": Those were all comments that I heard from various mouths.
THIS is the system that must be rejected and changed. They think it is just fine.
Similar to her fake husbands denial of almost 20 years ago.

This issue doesn’t change the hard core Uniparty (Hillary) or Trump voters.
It does impact the Bernie voters, which Hillary needs to even have a shot at this election.
IMO, this drives Bernie voters for the most part to go Green Party or stay home. (A few vote Trump)
Any Bernie voter that does not vote Hillary is a de facto Trump vote.

That is precisely the problem. Public office has become a license to use your position to enrich yourself. That is why election campaigns are so expensive.
There is no way to stop people from being corrupted (well, most people anyway), other than to take away the source of the corruption.

The Clinton’s have privately made 238 million for ‘pay-to-play’. And that’s okay? These people were apoplectic when Cheney used Halliburton in Iraq. (And no, that wasn’t right either.)

Trump is the little boy saying “but the Emperor really is naked, and crooked, by the way, and a total loser if you want my opinion” while the media and the ruling elites tell us how brilliant the emperors are and want desperately to shut up or shame the little boy.

The leftists claim to be for equality and fairness. How is it fair for a rich person or company to buy favors in Washington DC? How can the poor—the very people the left claims to love—compete against a system where $ makes right? If you can’t afford to carve out your own faction, your opponents will use government like a bludgeon against you!
BTW, corruption in government is a given. The way to limit its scope is to limit government itself. The founders understood this and gave us a system designed to keep the politicians in check, but that was a long, long time ago.
