Three women enjoying a quiet dinner in Santa Monica Thursday night went from their cheese platter to heroically thwarting an alleged date rape attempt.

Ulrich describes how she, along with friends Monica Kenyon and Marla Saltzer, were dining at the restaurant Fig at the Fairmont when Kenyon spotted a man at a nearby table putting something in his date's drink without her knowing. Instead of sitting quietly, Ulrich approached the woman in the bathroom and told her what Kenyon had seen.

Great! Love a story with a ..... well it’s not over yet, but at least the guy is in jail, and unable to cause problems for awhile.
Good for the women. It’s not just see something, say something. It’s DO something.
And what the hell is wrong with men that they have to drug women? Are they that hard up for sex?

I recall one of those “hidden camera” things with this.
The one time a sexy lady did it to the guy’s drink. The gal saw somebody see her and she winked and did a “shoosh” sign with her finger to her lips. IIRC, nobody said anything to the guy when he got back.
Then they did it with a normal looking guy doing it to a normal looking gal’s drink. Several people went up to the gal to warn her.
Well done. It’s sounds like this couldn’t have been handled better.
For the record, California Proposition 47, passed in 2014, reduced possession of date rape drugs from a felony to a misdemeanor.

Great job. But ... heroic?? They were never in danger.

Yeah, and that’s not all Prop 47 did. Now, if your car is broken into, and the value of the stuff taken is less than $950., it isn’t even a misdemeanor any longer, it’s an “infraction,” and if a cop sees it, he has no choice but to release the criminal with a ticket and a “promise to appear.” Same for vagrants “camping out” on your commercial property.

Yeah, I kinda thought about that too. But the ladies took swift action...they quickly did the right thing. I guess the writer chose "heroic" because it was a short word that, in a way, fit.
But if a crime was taking place in a heavily populated neighborhood and everyone shut their windows and failed to help, we'd be appalled too.
At least the article is an acknowledgement of a positive reaction on their part.
When we cheapen heroism down to a ‘positive reaction,’ we fall into the trap of medals for everyone. I realize I am swimming against the ‘participation trophy’ mindset.

Absolutely! They’re RATs aren’t they? They don’t care about the affect on the citizens, they’re just trying to do everything they can to avoid building additional prison capacity after a Federal Judge told them they had to, or release a whole lot of felons (which they’ve done as well).

Well, perhaps they could have switched drinks and after he was passed out, use a scalpel to removed his junk. Oops, I went off into a fantasy land. ;>)

This was a good thing. Heroic? That is asinine. You are correct. We should praise them, but characterizing it as heroic is just stupid.
