Don’t ask, don’t tell.

I don't intend to be the guy who tests the metal detectors at the front door.

It the new president wanted to be sure no person would be prosecuted under the post office ban, he could just order that all the signage under 18 USC 930 for post offices be taken down, and set up a web site so that citizens could post evidence of non-compliance, then exercise administrative penalties for those offices that refuse to follow his lawfully given policy.

“The USPS has not directly received taxpayer-dollars since the early 1980s...”

“Directly” being the key word in the above statement.

While I am very much in favor of the removal of the ban on Post Office carry, I would also (and preferably) like to have the NFA restrictions on suppressors eliminated, if I could only choose one thing (of course, I want it ALL - a COMPLETE restoration of the 2nd Amendment, including the ability to walk into Sears or my local hardware store and buy a full auto with no restrictions). Think about how often you go to the PO, vs. the amount of time that you spend shooting. Shooting, even with muffs, affects one’s hearing over time. Having a suppressor available at moderate cost (a couple hundred bucks, max) will do all of us a lot more good.

Of course, the NFA reform is important.

No thinking person can justify the ban for any logical reason, other than to generally discourage shooting.

But the Post Office ban can be addressed through legal executive action; the NFA reform requires legislation, IMHO.

I guess we don’t have them.

With you in spirit but I'd like to skip the drama.

“American taxpayers give an $18 billion gift to the post office every year”

If you read the article, the analysis (which comes from one person) is questionable on a number of points. The largest part of supposed "gift" comes from the laws that grant a monopoly to the postal service. But do you really think that private companies are going to deliver letters everywhere in the US for $0.49?

Under the Constitution it is part of the job of Congress to "establish post offices".

To save the $14 billion mentioned in the article, the price of first class postage would have to be dropped by 10 cents. That is not going to happen if the system if privatized in whole or in part.

Here’s another. No need to ship a firearm via an FFL if the buyer has a state-issued CCW. Buyer submits a signed 4473 (that could be addressed later) to seller and has it shipped direct.

The buyer has already been fingerprinted, mugged and passed state and federal background checks, so where’s the risk?

The pro-2nd dealers will be against it due to loss of revenue, but that’s tough. I had to pay $40 “handling fee”, even with a CCW, because the dealer had to drive 10 miles across a state line to physically deliver (he had that state’s license as well). He’s the only game in the area.

True. But I understand that such legislation already has very high support. Allowing one to possess a suppressor, and that very possession being equivalent to the tax stamp, will have tremendous benefits for the health of millions, as well as cutting back on the nuisance of all that noise. Both need to be done, ASAP.

No way. No more guns in the hands of government employees, especially the Post Office. An additional billion of so for this nonsense?
