“Was that when he was told he could talk about anything he wanted to?”

No, it was not. The moderator asked a specific question about defining “amnesty,” and before Marco even began to fully answer, the graphic was up, giving a bullet-point list of what his answer would be. Really disgraceful, and I wondered about it at that time. Watch the video excerpt from The Conservative Treehouse site, it is worth a view.

I read Trump had like 14 and change and cruz had 12 and change.

What irked me was the obvious stacking of the audience towards establishment types and the interupting of Cruz by the moderator to “get the facts straight” or whatever it was the mid said.
..interupting Cruz several times his first two questions.

But that ended and the candidates in the top 4 began napalming eachother and hollerin....quit interrupting eachother.

This ain’t Maury Friggin Povich.

There was another point when Rubio was told he could talk about what he wanted to.

Was that when he did the marriage and family speech?

Surrogates of Cruz say something in error and that makes Cruz a ‘liar’. Rubio says Cruz could not possibly have known what Rubio told Telemundo because h says Cruz cannot speak Spainish. Cruz is accused of lying and it sticks. Rubio is caught lying straight faced on TV and no one references him as a liar. I wonder why the double standard.

Hay! We’re talking about the GOP-e here :-))
Did you expect something different, w/a bit more integrity?
They are to be applauded. They never fail to meet the expectations we have for them; no matter how low and dirty, they do manage to pull it off.

That was odd, but at that point the moderator had lost control.

I thought CBS did a good job. They asked good questions and they let the candidates duke it out.

I don't share Kasich's opinion that the debate should just be a sharing of opinions.   People are attacking each other constantly in the media and on attack ads, so the debates are the place where scores are settled and feet are put to the fire about things they said.

It's a good vetting.

Finally, an open format like that naturally favors Trump who can stump anybody.

And I loved it when the moderator Dickerson called Cruz out on the year when Justice Kennedy was nominated/appointed.

Talk about archane facts. How could a candidate be expected to know that exact year? But Cruz boldly proclaimed that it was in 1986 that Kennedy was nominated and then Dickerson quickly explain that the 1986 date was not correct. This Think Progress article explains the exchange.

And Dickerson was artful in softening the blow, saying he was "sorry" and just wanted to get the fact straight for the public.

So this swag on the facts was very telling about Mr. Cruz and between that and his exchanges with Trump, Rubio, and Carson, Cruz came out bloodied.

OK. I think this is where it happened. Shortly after the wheels came off..

Right after Cruz's defense about Roberts.

DICKERSON: We're going to switch...

CRUZ: That's what Donald Trump does.

DICKERSON: We're going to switch here to Senator Marco Rubio.

Senator Marco Rubio, please weigh in.

RUBIO: On anything I want?

DICKERSON: I thought you had a point?

RUBIO: Well, let me talk about poverty.

DICKERSON: I thought you had a point you wanted to make.

RUBIO: I do.

BUSH: That was me.

RUBIO: I had something important.

DICKERSON: You're on deck sir.

RUBIO: The issue of poverty is critical, because for me, poverty is the -- is -- is free enterprise not reaching people. Today, we have antipoverty programs that don't cure poverty. We don't cure poverty in America. Our anti-poverty programs have become, in some instances, a way of life, a lifestyle.

Now, we do need anti-poverty programs, you can't have free enterprise programs without them, but not as a way of life. And so I have a very specific proposal on this and I don't -- in 60 seconds, I can't describe it all, but it basically turns the program over to states. It allows states to design innovative programs that cure poverty, because I think Nikki Haley will do a better job curing poverty than Barack Obama.

(APPLAUSE)

DICKERSON: Senator, I wanted to ask you, just going back to immigration, in the last debate, you listed your series of accomplishments in the Senate. One thing you left off was -- was immigration reform. Is it the case that in your list of accomplishments you can't mention that?

(Isn't here where that graphic pops up?)

RUBIO: Well, no. It's not the case. It didn't pass and we haven't solved immigration in this country. It's still a problem. It is worse today than it was three years ago, which is worse than it was five years ago. And it has to be confronted and solved.

But the only way forward on this issue -- you asked a question about flexibility. Let me tell you about that. One of the things that you need in leadership is the ability to understand that to get things done, you must figure out the way to get it done. You will not pass comprehensive immigration reform. People do not trust the federal government.

They want to see the law being enforced. They want to see illegal immigration come under control. They want to see that wall. They want to see e-verify. They want to see all of these things working and then they will have a conversation with you about what do you do with people that have been here a long time that are otherwise, you know, not criminals. But they're not going to do it until you first enforce the law.

DICKERSON: Dr. Carson, I have...

(APPLAUSE)

Sorry, I didn’t base my comment about Cruz getting less time in the debate 0on an actual clock but my perception. It is very possible in my eagerness to see Cruz triumph that my perception got skewed.

I still say it ... Cruz is the only truly principled conservative ..... which is why the establishment would rather have a Rubio or even a Trump presidency (more malleable!)

CBS should be made to answer why only one graphic was produced, and shown for only one candidate, in the entire two hour debate.

Something smells.

Don't you just love those softball open-enders.. Especially when they are placed upon a tee with such diligence and care.

Now go back and watch the video again. Even more closely this time. Look at Rubio, watch his eyes and body language - apply your own common sense to what you are witnessing.

Not only did Rubio know the topic question was coming. Not only did the CBS live broadcast production team know the question was coming (hence the graphic), but Rubio had topic notes (on the podium) for reference during his response.

I will never vote for an Establishment Republican again...
