Obama is the one who should catch hell over this. He won't. But he should
Even though this is the first time the full Congress has actually passed an ObamaCare repeal and sent it to the president for his signature (which of course, it will not get), weâve heard this media narrative many times before following repeal votes in the House: Those ridiculous Republicans keep wasting time on meaningless ObamaCare repeal votes when they could be doing the business of the American people, etc.
The narrative is always the same. Since everyone knows Obama wonât sign the repeal, the Republicans are stupid, reckless and irresponsible for even bothering to vote on the bills. But consider the logic you have to accept in order to embrace this narrative. First, how is ObamaCare working out for the country? If you judge it solely on the question of whether more people are âcoveredâ than before, hey, itâs a smashing success. If you judge it on how itâs affected premiums, on whether people who wanted to keep their health plans were able to do so, on how itâs affecting availability of care, on the fiscal viability of the exchanges or on its budget impact, ObamaCare is an utter disaster.
Nice try Dan.
Many conservatives have called for this all along. So why did it take 7 years?
The problem isn’t that they are wasting time doing this.
The problem is they continually pass funding for it and then pass this in an election year.
In other words, more Kabuki Theater.
You can’t FUND something and then a couple of weeks later vote to repeal it and be taken seriously.
I would criticize Obama instead of Paul Ryan and the Bill, IF the GOP-E had TRIED to pass this with teeth, that is, placed it in the recent funding bill where it would have made a difference.
If they had tried and lost, and then did this to make a statement, then more power to them.
But they wimped out then, and this is simply pretending...more wimpishness from charlatan establishmentarians.
Republicans just wanted to keep this fresh in the minds of Americans. I think this is a good move. We will see once Obama vetoes this that there will be a big Republican push to override and they will put pressure on the rats up for reelection.
No question we lost the battles for 7 years. It is quite possible that with less than a year until the election, that Congress will grow a pair and make this a central issue.
Bingo!
I have tried to see if there is a “silver lining” in this maneuver.
About the only “positive” with this move is that it would clearly show the electorate what would happen with Obamacare if there happened to be someone in the White House who would actually sign it in January, 2017.
This would also show the electorate who voted “nay” when there is a vote to override Obama’s veto, and if they are up for reelection in November, vote them out.
Of course, if the electorate chooses to put another Democrat in as POTUS and/or reelects Democrats who refused to override the veto, then game over.
ROTFL.
They had to wait till they fully funded it for the next year or two before they tried to defund it.
I think this explains it:
