I had a very dear friend die out in the mountains while hiking (snow storm, got lost, injured). I cannot tell you how many people since I have talked into carrying a SPOT (or in one case, a SAT phone). He would be alive if he’d had one .... we had to go through the hell of not knowing where he was until someone stumbled on his location a year later. Thanks for doing SAR.
I have three safety soap boxes that I get on and preach the word. 1. PLBs in the backcountry. 2. Helmets for snow sports, 3. Safe gun storage. I don’t ski as much as I used to, but I carry guns daily for work and a plb whenever I am flying or go in the field.
My hat’s off to this dude. I was FUBAR with 1 broken leg. 2? I would have ended it.

Actually, I think my brother had a DeLorme. He opted for the cheaper plan (only got it for a month - hunting trip was 10 days) with pre-set texts/emails, but he could have done two-way messaging. Another friend had an actual “SPOT” & I think he could set up email messages & family could see his location periodically.
I’m calling Bravo Sierra on it... just ain’t possible.
