The “conspiracy” and similar thought process that show up so often at Free Republic are the worst part of this site, in my opinion.
It takes away from Free Republic being a site of dependable information.

I thought the finger pointing up was more of an ISIS thing, but I guess not. The “Shadada” link above (30 sec.) is the verse muslims say as a creed to be believers. Includes stuff like “I will fight them until they say Allah is God”, and something about taking their land and stuff if they don’t. IN THE CREED!
(A little different than “I believe in the Resurection and Life everlasting...”)
My point, it is a common gesture in public speaking.
This is Cruz talking about his 1st day in office. He begins to enumerate the immediate actions he will take. Not the same as what Obama is doing.
That's undeniable; in fact, I do it myself.
But, it is also undeniable that it is the Islamic "Shahada" or "silent witness".

It is also true that it was the "One Way!" hand sign of the Jesus Movement back in the 70s.

Cruz raises his fingers when he is enumerating points or pointing his finger at the Washington Cartel. I’ve seen him do this in dozens of speeches, a couple of which I was able to attend. That is a different gesture than the lecturing finger pointing that Obama does.
Still seen in football stadiums around the U.S. after the guy scores a touchdown!
Do you recall if the “One Way” sign was used constantly though? It seems in those beheading videos the speaker has his finger up most of the time.
BTW - the early Christians called themselves “The Way”. It wasn’t until later that they were called Christians - started in a derogotory way iirc by the Romans. As in “Oh - those CHRISTIANS.”

Google “Muslim single finger sign”. You’ll find the sign used over and over, often by crowds of frenzied Muslims.
And our Muslim vet tech says this sign means “For the one God Allah”.
