The Black Lives Matter Movement Is About To Jump Into The 2016 Marijuana Battle
Buzz Feed News ^ | November 17, 2015 | Darren Sands

Marijuana legalization advocates want the support of Black Lives Matter activists in 2016. But a debate on tactics is brewing legalization groups and Black Lives Matter activists who worry people of color are being left out of the burgeoning legal marijuana industry.

WASHINGTON — Leading up to his meeting with the Black Lives Matter group Campaign Zero at the Frederick Douglass House in September, Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders steeled himself for an argument.

He’d only previously come face-to-face with Black Lives Matter protesters who wanted to interrupt him. But over the course of the meeting, the activists spoke authoritatively on policy recommendations to curb racial disparities in the criminal justice system, while Sanders impressed by synthesizing their talking points on police militarization, community empowerment, and systematic oppression.

The activists brought up one issue, however, that Sanders hadn’t considered: creating pathways for black Americans to take part in the emerging legal marijuana economy, which they said represented unprecedented wealth-building opportunities for people of color.

“He acknowledged that he hadn’t thought about ways to ensure black people had access to the legalized marijuana economy,” Campaign Zero’s policy analyst and data scientist Samuel Sinyangwe told BuzzFeed News. “But he said he was willing to start thinking about strategies to do this.”(continued)

Taking drugs and complaining about your own failures is what made America great - right?

I guess the people who feel they're losing the battle want to bring in BLM's as partner/enforcers to put hits on the other people. Here comes a new murder tsunami like the crack wars of the late 80's.

We'll need new rules, tho'. For every black clocker who gets taken out, the BLM's will have to murder a white person in compensation, for "social justice". "No limits" of course.

Why would they want that? They've already got it.

States like Colorado have banned people who have drug convictions from growing or distributing pot. What blm wants is to take that restriction away so that convicted black drug dealers can sell legally.

I'm puzzled as to why anyone would oppose this.

Stupid, white and stoned + stupid, black and bigoted and stoned. For anyone with an IQ better than the Mean, this is a win/win.

Who are we to deny them? These are people who actually enjoy making themselves moronic. We should encourage them to be more impaired.

How hard would it be to convince them to climb Mt Hood in January in their underwear? We could send the park service after them, in the Spring, assuming anyone would be interested...

I may have to take to marijuana soon, if somebody doesn’t stop this madness!

I grew up in Chicago. My dead grandfather has been canceling my vote for 70 years.

That you still believe in the sanctity of the Vote is, at best, wildly optimistic.

When was the last time a politician was shot for stealing an election? It's the only way. To make the cost outweigh the crime.

These creepy demands for equal outcomes in all things (with 0 effort) are absurd. Do they want 13% of the jobs growing legal weed? I didn’t think so.

Actually, I dont. I am a poll worker every election to try and stop the fraud, and even so, I still believe it’s corrupted. That said, seems most on this site DO believe in the “sanctity” of the vote. That said, my comment was intended more tongue-in-cheek.

Give 'em what they want. Overturn Wickard v Filburn. That means no more federal control of domestic marijuana, and it becomes a state issue.

It also means no more federal hate crime laws.

The locally-legal marijuana people in Colorado have a lot of ex-military security. If it comes down to #BLM types as enforcers, and guys like my niece’s boyfriend who’s doing security part-time while going to college on the GI Bill, my money is on the ex-military. He was a Marine 240 gunner, spent some time out in the boonies in Afghanistan, knows what he’s about.
