Forget Vegas, Nevada Is Now About Reno And Lithium

Nevada is booming as lithium companies rush in to stake out targets and massive business development gets underway, from Tesla to Amazon and Apple. As the state’s southwest corner fills up with new lithium players, Tesla gears up for its battery gigafactory and the world’s largest data center sets up shop, Nevada is poised for one of the greatest economic revival stories of the century.

In an exclusive interview with Oilprice.com, Brian Findlay, President and CEO of Dajin Resources Corp., discusses:

• How Tesla’s gigafactory is sparking a massive resurgence in Nevada • Why other giant businesses are setting up shop here • Why Nevada is ground zero for the lithium boom • Why Reno will be the New Las Vegas • What it all means for economic development and job creation • The rush to stake out lithium targets, and the big names that are interested • The few options left to get in on this game • Who got there first, and where it’s all going

Oilprice.com: The first thing that used to come to everyone’s mind with any mention of Nevada was Las Vegas and gambling. Today, however, we think of a lithium boom, of Tesla, and of economic recovery. Why is Nevada suddenly on everyone’s radar?

Brian Findlay: Particularly in the energy sector—but not exclusively—Nevada is one of the best places to be right now. The economic recovery that is going on here in Reno, but also statewide, is one of the best success stories of the decade. Not only is Tesla’s battery gigafactory creating an amazing resurgence, but other major factories are moving to the Tahoe Reno Industrial Center, will house Switch, the world’s largest data center, along with some other huge names, including Amazon and Apple. The real estate market is on the upswing

Nevada has but one corner in the South of the State. A possible corner corresponding to SW is in the middle of Lake Tahoe.

Just so long as they leave my little town alone. I’m enjoying living the country life.

There’s lithium mineral deposits in Nevada?

You can build a huge battery plant, but it’s useless without a reliable source of raw materials.

If I remember right, most of the viable lithium reserves come out of S. America and a few ME countries, along with some deposits in china.

Yeah except that Tesla is apparently not buying its Lithium locally. They are going to import it. The folks that wooed them to build here in the first place are pretty embarrassed that they did not stipulate buying the local as part of their tax breaks and what not.

I knew there was some alkali deposits somewhere in that region, but are they going to be the source for this plant? Are they allowed to mine it? That would be great if that's what their plan is.

...

The article makes it sound like Nevada is still getting a good deal.

LOLOLOL! Yes, now that I'm here, I'd rather not have anymore! Plus, I know I'm conservative! :D

Nevada is getting a good deal, but Jerry Brown feels that California is getting a better deal, because NV gave Tesla a lot of tax breaks, which California would have had to give Tesla to bring it there, and would have lost all that tax revenue and because they stood firm, they did not. (I know it doesn’t make any sense but that is what he said, as best as I can understand it.)

I am so glad I do not live in California any more!

Tesla plans to buy lithium, a critical ingredient in its batteries, from a mining project that’s under development 200 miles from its battery factory near Reno, Nev.

I don’t believe Reno is in SW Nevada. Simple.

That is not what they said a few weeks before that. Maybe the backlash changed their minds.
