The Dodgers announced Thursday that Hall of Fame broadcaster Vin Scully will miss the 2015 postseason after undergoing a medical procedure.

Scully, who turns 88 in November, has been the "Voice of the Dodgers" for 66 seasons, the longest of any current broadcaster with one team. The Dodgers announced the news in a series of tweets.

Scully is a national treasure and regardless of team affiliation, everyone in the baseball community wishes him a speedy recovery.

Wonder why he was not calling the Dodger games last weekend.

I recall watching Ken Burns Baseball a few years ago, it was the part where the Giants caught the Dodgers in 1951 - on the final day of the season they were tied, the Giants won their game and Brooklyn was playing Pittsburgh - Vin Scully was calling the highlights!

The Giants’ broadcast is more commonly heard, no?
“The Giants win the pennant! The Giants win the pennant!”

A lot of people forget that Scully called “The Catch” in the 1981 NFC Championship Game. “Montana…looking.....looking, throwing in the end zone…Clark caught it! Dwight Clark!…It’s a madhouse at Candlestick!”

I love Vin. I would listen to him call Dodger games on my little transistor radio when I was in junior high. Those were the days.

Vin is the best, and he is a gentleman too. The rest of these sports announcers today are nothing but politically-charged putzs who aren’t worthy to hold Vin’s jockstrap.

Yes, very famous from Russ Hodges, but that was 3 days later after a 3 game playoff.

We Giants fans lost our beloved Lon Simmons earlier this year, as well. I hope Vin can return to the booth next year.

I have been a Dodgers fan since I was just a kid and they were still in Brooklyn. Can’t imagine the Dodgers without Vin Scully.

Big Giants fan here in Nor Cal too, and I love Kruk and Kuip, and of course Jon is an institution too - but Scully really is an awesome announcer, and even more so since he has lasted so long, through so much history. Get well Vin, for another season.

Me too. Listening to the Dodgers on an old radio in the desert was the height of sports addiction for me. A tube in the radio would go out at all the wrong times.

The only thing that has me worried when it comes to Vin is that when he announced that he was returning for another year he said “And God Willing I will be back next year” those are the exact same words that came out of the mouth of Chick Hearn, a few months later he died, so those words are always haunting to me when it comes to these sports broadcasting legends I never forgot what Chick said..just hope that Vin will be OK he is a legend in this city..its one of the few things about LA that still is worth anything, just to hear Vin’s voice always makes me smile
