Since you’re an expert, tell us just what are
Those ridiculous pensions for those just starting out looking to stick it to the taxpayer? :)

Hint:They’ve been changed to defined contribution or 401k funds.

But don’t let facts get in the way of a good rant.

It is great that someone has had the good sense to make some adjustments. Many states and jurisdictions are under an incredible burden paying “educators” their pensions 30-50 years after their retirement at age 50.

As to me being an “expert”, I am just a taxpayer tired of being screwed by teachers and their unions.

One other little note about those lazy ass teachers you rail about. They are Required to have a bachelors degree along with an year extra to become certified to teach in the state of Michigan.

So if you think it’s such an easy gig for 8 months a year why are you whining about the scam and not in a Classroom teaching? Me thinks you don’t have a clue as to what is REQUIRED of those Teachers to even get into a classroom.

Let’s agree to disagree. I pay my taxes and expect government workers to work appropriately, not scam society.

Then quit your bitching and get your ass in a classroom! Spend 5 years in College to be subjected to the ignorance you show on a daily basis by Parents and students alike.

Don’t whine about it FIX it.

My take is you’ld walk out after a week in an urban School. Completely justified too. :)
Trust me it’s a war zone.

After 30 years in the system where I have actively changed it from inside I will agree with two things about Public Ed.

1. Bad Teachers are not removed fast enough

2. The biggest wasters of public funds are the Administrators and Governing Boards used to give huge wage increases to cronies in admin. And building projects that waste and hide Millions

Most teachers love to teach and don’t choose the profession for the wages. My daughter could have written her own ticket in the pharma. Profession but chose to teach H.S. and College level Chemistry. She just accepted a job at a local K-12 with 5 years experience for 42k. After her retirement and healthcare premiums are deducted she’ll be lucky to net 800 bucks every two weeks.

Who out there is volunteering for the job?
Before you do we should talk about the animals you’ll get to deal with on a family basis.

You can live comfortably in Isabella County on $41,000.

A couple making $82,000 would be doing very well indeed.
The area is relatively safe and the schools regularly out-perform those in high-cost areas.

“bitching”...”lazy ass”...”whining...” Those are your words. I believe that your daughter is an “educator” has blinded you somewhat. Please stop the personal insulting language. There are hard-working teachers. However, there are many more who collect a check and a nice retirement. Good night.

Our school district isn't so different and teachers average $58K. My neighbors across the street are in such a situation and I notice them replacing one car and an SUV every three years.

Our district is literally swamped with applications (roughly 300 to 1) every time there is an opening.

Yet they are constantly whining about not having enough money. They cancelled the Japanese program a couple of years ago even though they already had a teacher who, lucky for her, was also qualified to teach French, which they kept.

Big cost savings move considering they can afford $100K for a football coach who consistently produces 2-11 or 3-10 records. The former coach was doing just about the same, but at least he was only drawing $60K and actively getting the kids into colleges on football scholarships plus teaching several PE classes. Warped priorities!
