For adherent Catholics the announcement of the pending visit of Pope Francis promised much. Some felt that perhaps the Vatican had finally realized that the American Catholic Church represents the very future survival of the Catholic Church worldwide.

There was great hope among some that Francis would come to America and say, “Thank you America; thank you for always being there in times of need for so many around the world, even those who hate you as the Bible directs; thank you American Catholics for contributing so much to support foreign missions; thank you for being the pro-life beacon in a world bent on the destruction of innocent human life; thank you America for taking in more immigrants than all other countries in the world combined; thank you for sending your young men and women to fight tyranny around the world where they risked their lives for the sake of others; thank you America for twice freeing the people of Europe, the land of my forefathers, and thank you for your Catholic hospitals and schools that make the world a better place.”

To the delight of liberals, Francis said virtually none of this. Instead he is now being praised for not being too harsh on Americans, Catholic and otherwise – as if that is what we really deserved. I never expected a "thank you" from the Pope. But I do wish he had spoken out on the issues affecting the Church, instead of promoting Peronista-style fascism and the global warming hoax.
