I have some of his nickleplated Ammo circa 1968 when he retired.

My CCI is a lot newer, but lost track of where they were stored. The wires are to emphasize that the holes are not mere pitting. Stored in a damp location due to hurricane damage to the house, they were not close to salt water.

They'd probably shoot OK, but why take a chance?

Yeah. I wouldn’t shoot them. They look nasty. Some of my reloads are from the mid eighties. They all fire well but are kept in fairly dry places.

The stuff my dad had looked ok. Some were a little green around the gills. They fired ok but once extracted some split around half back from the mouth and you can see the corrosion in the split.

Those look like aluminium cases to me.

They are aluminum: CCI, known for aluminum cases, made them.

It’s been awhile, but I think they were CCI Blazer...

But you guys were slobs...I mean, c'mon...that stuff stinks and putting your feet in diesel soaked boots?

The trick is to wear a pair of wool socks, then a plastic baggie, then another pair of socks. The plastic bag in which a PRC-25/ PRC-77 radio battery was shipped in worked pretty well, if your feet were small enough.

The boots were near immaculate...the holsters were serviceable, but I couldn't figure out what was all over them, that had soaked into the leather and made them about twice as heavy as they should have been.

I later talked to an old 2AD buddy and he said it was most likely diesel.

Grease, automotive and artillery, thinned with Diesel is a good bet. We tried to avoid red *cherry juice* hydraulic oil, which was flammable. Then along came a non-incendiary replacement from the aviation world, called Skydrol....but it turned out to be a carcinogen.

I kind of favoured lanolin, swiped from the medics, myself.

But you guys were slobs...I mean, c'mon...that stuff stinks and putting your feet in diesel soaked boots?

Best job I ever had.
