I’m amazed that Red Hampshire, if it is really that bad, has not legislated a sales tax or income tax (or both) into being.

There is a 9% sales tax on lodging, meals and car rentals (which is why they covet all the media attention during primary season), property taxes are insanely high, and the taxes paid at car registration time will set you back hundreds or even north of a thousand dollars.
