Rick Perry needed a second chance.
“America is a great place for second chances,” he hinted to late-night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel in March, before Perry had officially launched his second bid for president.
After his spectacular implosion as a candidate in 2012, Perry needed to run a disciplined presidential campaign free from gaffes, less frenzied and slapdash than his last. He needed to show Republicans, to persuade them, that this time could be different.
Perry did all that. But he never got that second chance, because no one was watching.

I know everything good and bad in this election must be tied to Trump by someone, but I don’t see it. Even without Trump there were 15 other people to overcome. Perry wasn’t going to do that.
I would blame Rick Perry myself.
I know he’s probably pretty smart but the guy looks and sounds stupid. Especially with those big ass glasses. Presidential politics sadly, is all about optics and he comes off as kind of a doofus. He did last time around also.
Ok, I only read the headline but to blame Trump for Perry’s failing is really quite a stretch. Perry has no “comeback” in him.
Perry destroyed his 2016 chances in 2011.
Some Karl Rove-recruited Carter-Gore Democrat RINO loser. He loves open borders, illegals, and giving little girls Gardasil shots. Wears hipster glasses. Basically a big giant douche.
His campaign suffocated from a lack of oxygen created by Donald Trump IMO. The rest of the 1%ers are just able to hold their breath longer but they’ll start gasping soon enough too.
Perry had spent more time and money in Iowa than any other candidate, until the big spending in the last few weeks.
Popular Iowa radio personality Sam Clovis, a conservative Catholic, had headed Perry’s Iowa campaign, and was expected to give Perry a big boost. Clovis recently switched his endorsement to Trump, and Cruz was more successful with other Iowa conservative activists and fund raisers.
That was heartless.
