Terry Bean, the real estate investor and gay-rights pioneer who faces sex-crimes charges in Lane County, has been under the microscope for the past year since WW reported on his troubled personal life.
As WW has reported, Bean unsuccessfully sought to avoid trial on Lane County charges with a cash offer to his alleged victim, a 17-year-old boy who now is on the run from a subpoena.
On Friday, The Oregonian reported that the lawyer for a former boyfriend of Bean, Kiah Lawson, filed documents in a Washington County case attempting to tie Bean to another allegation of sexual abuse of a minor.
Bean's attorney, Derek Ashton, told The Oregonian that Lawson's allegations lacked merit.
"Lawson is desperate," Ashton told The Oregonian. "He is in trouble of his own making and will say anything to pass the blame."
Meanwhile, Bean is showing unusual generosity in local political circles, according to filings with the secretary of state. Although Bean is a national political player who raised more money for President Barack Obama than any other Oregonian, he has not been a large donor to local political candidates and causes.
But on Aug. 13, Bean wrote a $5,000 check to the Multnomah County Democratic Central Committee. That's by far the largest contribution he's made in Oregon since the state's electronic campaign filing system went live in 2006. His previous biggest check was $1,600 to the Democratic Party of Oregon in 2008.
Ashton, Bean's attorney, did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
I can’t find it, but I thought he had been accused of multiple child sexual assaults.
And, sounds like Bean is trying to buy a Democrat, just like he, apparently, bought the testimony of the boy he raped.
I remember reading about Mr. Bean.
Wonder if and how he’s connected to Brad Avakian, the democrat labor official who socked the Christian bakery with the $135,000 fine.
Also, whether any prior connection to the gays who demanded the cake.
