Not nearly deadly enough for protection...unless you empty the magazine into a perp.
No, it was probably a .223 or 5.56x45, the most common chambering for a AR15 clone.
The term AR15 clone is used because it covers the many different manufacturers and models that are made on the basic AR15 type of platform.
It has not been stated where Deishun L. Byrd-McWay was hit. There were likely peripheral hits, as he survived.
I have an AR, and it certainly isn’t a clone.
I have seen 9mm, .22 cal, and even BB firing AR's.
I just watched the video, and, from the muzzle flash, looks like you’re are correct about this guy firing a .223/5.56.

dear tumblin,
re: “Boris Roscoevitch”, why not call it:
“boris mikhailovitch”?
mikhailovitch, because mikhail kalishnokov designed the rifle, ergo, ‘son of’. ‘ovna’ is daughter of.
And also take note of yefragetuwrabrumuy's VERY astute analysis at Post #10.
This has gone viral as of this morning, and of course the Left is casting blame for the whole thing on the conduct of the storekeeper...
The Watchman Ping List - FReepmail Old Sarge for details!
We have a county DA who is dragging a good shooting by local city police in front of a *civil* grand jury *3 years* after the incident. Complete B.S. driven by the current political environment.
If you need to put some heat on this guy you need to get people discussing the fact this guy thinks your city has money to burn oin this case. and if it turns out hes getting fed money to go ahead with it, expose that angle too.
Colt, the original ‘point and click’ user interface.
It’s a county prosecutor going after a city policeman, so two levels of government involved. And to add more fun to the equation, there’s a racial component.
Bump

Soviet industrial designer and Lieutenant-General Mikhail Timofeyevich Kalashnikov was known by his friends and close associates by the combined familiar name MikTim from the dimunitive nickname from his first name conjoined with his patronymic, Timofeyevich.
There was a post at Free Republic about it a couple of years back.
Concur. Although some interesting things can be done with a belt-fed AR upper ejecting downward through an otherwise unused magazine well, and the 7,62x39mm M43 cartridge offers a little better penetration than the 5,56x45.
I've now pretty much quit playing with .300 Blackout, and have moved on to the 7,62x40mm WT.
The 7.62x40 WT is based on the inexpensive and readily available 5.56x45 Nato cartridge case. The 5.56 case is shortened to 1.560 and then re-sized (single operation) in a standard 7.62x40 WT sizing die which results in a formed 7.62x40 WT case with a finished overall case length of 1.565. The cartridge is designed for 110-150gr .308 diameter bullets loaded to supersonic velocities, but if chambered in a 1-8 twist barrel is also suitable for heavy bullet subsonic use also. dear archy,
‘timofeyovich’ ... thanks, i had forgotten the Cyrillic form of ‘Timothy’.
не за что мой друг!
