Ukraine is at War, states Herman Pirchner, Jr., President of the American Foreign Policy Council in Washington, D.C. The AFPC is a much needed Conservative alternative to the Council on Foreign Relations, which although much larger, exhibits too many Globalist themes and aims while diminishing Americas presence on the world stage. President Pirchner explains in his just released treatise that sanctions by the Obama administration and the EU have done little to tamp down Vladimir Putins campaign of aggression known as hybrid warfare. Russias persistence in its Ukraine offensive is deeply rooted in the bloody history of the Ukraine that features Russias ancient imperialist ideologies clashing violently, at times, with the strong nationalist and independent ideologies of Ukraine and its people. (2) Slavic tribes from the 6th century to the 11th century created what was then Europes largest state which was overcome by Mongol raiders. Poland/Lithuania then took over, followed by Russia grabbing much of the territory during the 17th century. From that time until its 1991 independence, most of todays Ukraine was ruled by Czarist Russia and its successor, the USSR. Understanding the history of these tectonic, ethnic pressures is vital for understanding Ukraines current war says Pirchner.
Severely curtailed while under Russias control were the teaching of the Ukrainian language, the independence of its churches, and publishing of its heritage. Pirchner explains what was done to these proud people. The horror of the man-made famine known as the Holodomor involved Bolshevik forces literally surrounding Ukrainian villages! The brutality was unspeakable because the villagers were subjected to the slow death of removal of their food supplies since no one was allowed in or out! That policy was followed by widespread imprisonment and assassination of Ukrainian opposition...
