Right now he is but if he doesn’t win the Republican nomination he can go independent like Perot did and split the vote. That’s how Clinton got in.
Trump changes parties frequently.
He may deserve attention but he will have to earn the vote.

Not stupid. We've been voting "lesser evil" for decades now. Look at where it has got us. All it has accomplished is pushing the GOP further to the left. No thanks. Perot ran as an independent. Trump is running for the Republican nomination. He will win or he won’t, but he isn’t a spoiler like Perot.

Well only time will tell. All I can say is the current crop of same ole same ole better sharpen up if Donald is going to be in the debates. I’m looking forward to watching them sweat.

I’m interested. I like his crass old-fashioned capitalism. I like his business acumen. I like how he rattles everyone else. I like how he’s proud to be American and wants America to be great again. I like that he wants to stop the invading hordes of gimmedats. I like how he doesn’t care about what all the royals in D.C. think of him. Yeah. I’m interested. I’ll be watching him. Everyone else except Cruz and “maybe” Carly (I know, I know) puts me to sleep.

Other so-called candidates may have good motives for wanting to run. But not Trump. He’s just in it for the glory.
With due respect I'll not disagree with your contention on trade and tariffs.
But I think you miss a larger sociological and cultural imperative that is afoot.
It is broadly understood, whether accurately or not, that these trade deals and illegal immigration have destroyed the nations commerce.
The "root" event, the turning point for this change, again, whether accurate or not is believed to be NAFTA. And the open borders of the Clinton-Bush era.
You are raging against the wind. That meme is sweeping the nation up and Trump is it's siren.
And that meme will dominate at least 3 election cycles...maybe 10.
