Two Baltimore police officers spoke through voice-altering technology to CNN’s Brooke Baldwin Wednesday morning, telling her that cops are in a “reactionary mode” since the criticism of the department over the death of Freddie Gray while in police custody.
Violence has spiked in Baltimore since a supposed “police slowdown,” in which officers pull back from their duties when they feel a lack of city and community support. The officers said police are still responding to emergency requests, but have stopped initiating policing, instead retreating into a “reactionary mode.”
“Even though you have reasonable suspicion…nine out of 10 times, that officer is going to keep on driving,” one officer said.
Why cops are allowed to do this nobody knows, but the two anonymous officers told CNN that the situation creates a boon for criminals.
“The criminal element feels as though that we’re not going to run the risk of chasing them if they are armed with a gun, and they’re using this opportunity to settle old beefs, or scores, with people that they have conflict with,” the officer said. “I think the public really, really sees that they asked for a softer, less aggressive police department, and we have given them that, and now they are realizing that their way of thinking does not work.”

I think the phrase in bold emphasis represents an unwarranted assumption.
What would Baltimore look like without any policing?
I give it 6 months, it will be safe to walk the streets (after shooting whoever is left, of course).

On the chance any Balti police are reading this, I would like to add the following if it’s okay,
CNN and like media outlets only pay attention to you for one of two reasons ONLY - 1) To destroy you, or 2) To use you to destroy someone else. Period.
They hate your guts and will lie, cheat, and steal to destroy you. Never, ever talk to them.

If I were a police officer in Baltimore or any other city, why would I want to help out people who spit on me, curse at me, and want me dead..if criminals want to kill each other, I say let them do it and the more the merrier
Never let the police and firemen unionize.
JFK helped unionize government, now the unions run our cities.
You would do it for the same reason that we all go to work, to do our jobs and collect our checks.
Union solidarity is not something to praise, especially when that union is also the government, and the men with the guns.
It is not that they are "allowed" to do it - they are responding to what their DA told them. If the DA decides after the fact that no crime was committed, the cop is subject to arrest and criminal charges. Unless and until that whackjob DA starts following the legal definition of reasonable cause, the police are doing what is rational.
Why not just quit?
America's dirty little secret: Most, if not all, policing is entirely discretionary.
We need less police, A LOT LESS, and more free citizens carrying.
And the local prosecutors need to be either put on a leash when it comes to free citizens exercising their Rights, or we just need less full-time prosecutors, who will then focus on important crimes, like Obstruction of Justice by lawless former Secretaries of State, or serious felonies committed by lawless IRS bureaucrats.

Looking at Baltimore, it isn't the local police who are running the city.
If you read the title of the article you would have your answer.

The unions run most of our big cities, they don’t make every decision, but they are the most important force and power block, and the city employee unions control huge amounts of money, and votes.
The unions are not right wingers, who share your politics.
That’s why many of the people in Baltimore are known as BALTIMORONS. Think Liberals, Leftists, Blacks.
Don’t see many Amish, Hispanics, Jews, Asians, or BigFoots doing the crime, do we?
