I believe that we might win!
"I hope that what we are capable of is becoming consistent," Klinsmann said. "We surprised quite a lot of people with that result in Holland, but now it's actually on us to take the same energy, the same approach, the same discipline and tempo against the world champions. This is what we will talk to the players about. We still have to correct a couple of mistakes we did against Holland, but now keep the same approach."You've got to do it again. We're hoping that over time it becomes a lifestyle that we always expect the best from ourselves in training and in the game, and there's nothing bigger than a game against the world champions. It's going to be the highest benchmark that we've experienced so far.
"This game against Germany is a fascinating opportunity. If you were a player and you get a chance to play against Germany, against the world champions, against all of those names that had the World Cup trophy a year ago in their hands, it's just wonderful. We will tell the players to just rise to the occasion. Enjoy that moment, but give it your all. Really go at them and give them a fight. Show the character that you already showed with the Holland game."
"It's nice that we have the team back together in order to prepare for the game against Gibraltar and the tasks ahead in the autumn," said team manager Oliver Bierhoff. "Such games have always contributed to the development of the team and individual players. Playing against Jurgen Klinsmann is always something special for us. We want to play against the Americans in a great atmosphere, with attractive football.
"I am pleased personally to meet Jurgen again, because he also has a large share in the current performance of our team."
Four score and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this continent a new nation, conceived in liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal.
Now we are engaged in a great civil war, testing whether that nation, or any nation so conceived and so dedicated, can long endure. We are met on a great battlefield of that war. We have come to dedicate a portion of that field, as a final resting place for those who here gave their lives that that nation might live. It is altogether fitting and proper that we should do this.
But, in a larger sense, we can not dedicate, we can not consecrate, we can not hallow this ground. The brave men, living and dead, who struggled here, have consecrated it, far above our poor power to add or detract. The world will little note, nor long remember what we say here, but it can never forget what they did here. It is for us the living, rather, to be dedicated here to the unfinished work which they who fought here have thus far so nobly advanced. It is rather for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before usthat from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotionthat we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vainthat this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedomand that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.
The Holland match was a nice reversal of recent trends, which was to play well for 70 minutes and then fall apart.
Still, this is a young, relatively inexperienced USA squad with several key MLS players not making the trip, and while Germany isn’t putting their top 11 out there either, I think they’ll be wary after last week’s upset.
As seen in the Holland game, our defense is still woeful.
That’s probably realistic. I will say Germany 2 0 USA
It is interesting, in March, Germany 2 2 Australia, not a good result for Germany.
So, Germany has not been playing real well besides being the team everyone wants to beat. Really, you think they would have defeated Gibraltar by a score of more than 4-0. Maybe Gibraltar is that good.
And once again, a friendly but I think Germany will be pumped up for this.
And they are off and running....
The Dutch, especially in recent form, don’t care as much about friendlies.
Thanks for the pings, really like the soccer threads.
For the record, I have a German jersey, Klinsmann, I think #18 for the 1994 World Cup, I wear it every once in awhile. Really, a cotton t-shirts is usually more comfortable than the few soccer jerseys I have. At least, these modern jerseys made of artificial fibers. I have a cotton retro jersey, it’s fairly comfortable.
But unfortunately, to those who know me, I cheer almost every time against Germany but they were definitely the team last time, best in the World Cup, so I have mixed feelings on them.
Now, as for women’s soccer or even their ice hockey team and other athletes, I don’t act like such a stick in the mud. There’s something about soccer.
Diskerud ties it up 1-1 in first half, Diskerud playing for the USA is a product of Norway it appears:

Up Next: With the 2016 European Cup on the horizon, Germany play an actual match of significance against Gibraltar on June 13. The United States turn their attention to the 2015 Gold Cup, opening the tournament in Nashville against Guatemala on July 3.
Man did I get that prediction wrong - AND I LOVE IT!!!
USA winning the Gold Cup is key as it will get us in the next Confed. Cup in 2017.
