Sarah Palin Honors SEALs Aboard USS Iowa

Former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin honors SEALs aboard the USS Iowa last night at a dinner gala and auction held by the SEAL-NSW Family Foundation.

In a brief interview with Ruben Jay, she said,

“what an honor for Todd and I to be here. This is iconic of course – the history of this chunk of metal and what it represents; the history and the representative that it is of the virtues and characteristics of our military. It’s an honor to be here to help raise money for families of Navy SEALs and do whatever we can to show we appreciate this great country and those who have sacrificed so much for us.”

Jay asked if Sarah Palin would run for President in 2016, and she said, “oh, 2016. What am I going to be doing in 2016? Good question. We’ll see.”

Sarah Palin’s speech was most likely arranged through the Washington Speakers Bureau and there are no videos, live Tweets, or transcripts as this story goes to press. There were several good photos, however, from a variety of sources.

The SEAL-NSW Family Foundation is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit that offers charitable assistance to the families of Naval Special Warfare.

There are a Ton Images of the Event at the Link.

However most are Getty Images, which I don't think can be posted here :P

They are of her being Interviewed, Pics With Gene Simmons, around the U.S.S. Iowa herself and other pics she took with People while there.

That must have been so exciting!

I got the see the U.S.S. Iowa up close and personal from the Harbor masters' boat, back in June of 2001 when I was 12 years old, while she was berthed in Benicia, California as part of the Reserve Fleet.

Here is Sarah's Facebook Post from Yesterday: https://www.facebook.com/sarahpalin/posts/10153318997773588

Todd and I are very excited to attend the SEAL-NSW Family Foundation fundraiser tomorrow aboard the historic USS Iowa. We'll be joined by friends who love our troops as much as we do, and Todd will reunite with former Navy Seal and "Stars Earn Stripes" operative Brent Gleason.

This battleship is the perfect setting to honor the families of our Navy’s elite fighting force. The USS Iowa has a long and distinguished history as the lead ship of her class and the fourth to bear the name of the great state of Iowa. She was built and commissioned in 1943 in the New York Navy Yard in Brooklyn. During World War II, she transported President Roosevelt to and from Casablanca and was part of the Battles of the Philippine Sea and Leyte Gulf, and she was even present in Tokyo Bay on September 2, 1945, when the Japanese formally surrendered, ending World War II. She later served in the Korean War and was decommissioned for the first time in 1958. During President Reagan’s defense buildup in the 1980s, the USS Iowa was modernized and recommissioned, and she carried President Reagan during the International Naval Review in the Hudson River on the Fourth of July, 1986. She was decommissioned for the last time in 1990, and is now based at Berth 87 in the Port of Los Angeles where she's open to the public as the USS Iowa Museum.

This great ship and her crew represented the finest traditions of our United States Navy spanning over five decades. The USS Iowa, like our SEAL-NSW families, embodies the values of the Navy song, “Faith, Courage, Service True, with Honor, Over Honor, Over All.”

It is an honor to help raise funds for our sacrificial Seal families. God bless the men and women of our United States Navy and, so importantly, their families!

- Sarah Palin

What is the procedure for removing those plugs from the barrels? Do they use air pressure?

Is there a line that goes down to the breech to hold them in place?

I thouroughly agree. The best looking and most impressive ship we ever had.

BTW, was on the recieving end of those 16” guns while towing a target off Puerto Rico. Target was five miles behind us and shells were landing 200-300 yards off the fantail. Range was good but bearing was way off. The Iowa was 20 miles away.

I think they use a Chain and just pull them out.
