LA: Neighbor Shoots Burglary Suspect, Stops Crime Spree
Gun Watch ^ | 26 April, 2014 | Dean Weingarten

On 23 April, an alert neighbor stopped an ongoing crime spree by shooting a burglary suspect in the leg, allowing police to apprehend the suspect.   While the situation is still under investigation, it appears that the shooting was justified, given the facts reported.   From the Lake Charles Police Facebook page:

Lake Charles Police responded to a prowler call in the 3700 block of Vanderbilt Street. While on the way to that call, Officers were advised that a shot was fired at the same location. When officers arrived, they discovered that a homeowner had encountered a subject running from a neighbor’s back yard. The male ran toward the homeowner who then fired one shot, striking the subject in the leg. The male fled the scene prior to officer’s arrival. While checking the area, officer’s discovered that the subject burglarized three separate homes and dropped a bag that contained property from the burglaries. After fleeing from the scene, the subject entered a vacant home on Yale Street. After leaving that location, he walked to the area of California Street where he was apprehended.
Only a small number of criminals are required to commit a large number of crimes.  Reduce the number of criminals, and the number of crimes goes down.  It is not a hard concept to understand.

Burglars are seldom caught in the act by police.  There are simply not enough police to do so.   Burglars are much more likely to be surprised by a homeowner or neighbor.    Most burglars are young males.  In this case the suspect is a juvenile.  They can be particularly dangerous, as they may not have yet learned how little they need fear the criminal justice system.

A lot of crime can be stopped by stopping one criminal.

Just think about how little cash one mugging or store robbery is likely to get the criminal. Somebody who is a professional criminal would have to commit at least one crime per day, probably more, to keep himself in funds. That adds up to a LOT of crimes per year.

“by shooting a burglary suspect in the leg,...” stops the crime spree temporarily.

Shoot him dead and he won’t ever do it again.

Perhaps criminals have one or more female associates who provide a warm place to sleep and regular meals (paid for with tax dollars) to subsidize the crime. They might get “protection” and bonuses in gifts and some extra cash now and then.

They might be girlfriends, mothers, or grandmothers.

Pure speculation.

If you wish to read a science fiction/fantasy (though many would say it is Swiftian style satire) along these lines, I recommend The Burning City by Niven and Pournelle.

Most of the reviews just do not get it. Perhaps you have to have an eye for satire to find it.

One big reason for inner-city women to raise their sons to be violent thugs, is so that the sons will provide some degree of protection to Mom from all the OTHER violent thugs in the neighborhood. It’s also an incentive to have a lot of kids.

I was watching a TV show last night and this guy had committed at least two rapes and maybe 250 home burglaries. The reason he was caught is because a home owner came home in time to see him in his house. The burglar had left his car behind and that was all the cops needed.

It was pointed out many years, there are more good guys than bad guys.
If you arm the good guys, they will shoot the bad guys. Problem with crime solved.

That is the fundamental difference with “progressives”. They are unwilling to discriminate between “good guys” and “bad guys”.

They claim that everyone is the same, “all over the world”.

Except, of course, for the educated ruling class, and government officials, who are always way smarter and wiser.

Just to be a prick: LA: Neighbor Shoots Burglary Suspect, Stops Crime Spree

It should be " La. " not LA.
Some among us, like myself, might think you were referring to that area of southern California known as Los Angeles.

Just sayin'...I like your Gun Watch site. Thanks.

If I am not mistaken, in NYC, when the police department while implementing the broken glass theory of policing, when drilling down the crime stats of certain areas, they found only a very few criminals were responsible for the vast majority of crimes...

Put these guys behind bars and crimes went down dramatically...
