Daniel makes a critically salient point picked up by several readers here. Progressivism is all about deconstruction to the point of nihilism. This is the primary task of Marxism, to destroy every vestige of cultural tradition. The end result is absolute tyranny by an all powerful state.
Strangely it is Islam that reminds us daily that we are engaged in a spiritual war for the very existence of humanity. OUR leaders wish only to deny any spiritual dimension. Chaos and conflagration are the goals of both Islam and western political leadership. Both are the enemy of mankind and are at war with the peace of God.
You have a valid point. He is clearly using gender to mean sex. 2 years ago that was a legitimate distinction. The meaning of gender has shifted in just the way he describes as the very purpose of progressive deconstruction. A word that meant something very specific just a few years ago means something completely opposite today. That is the very case he is making in this article.
I agree that he’s using gender to mean sex. However, he’s also using gender to mean gender. Maybe he’s pursuing deep irony, but unfortunately, once we surrender the distinction between biology and society, we’ve got no argument against 51 “genders.”

Precisely, and well put. That particular weirdness has a fairly short self life, IMHO. The Left has managed to bully "Gender" into questionnaires with M and F as the possible answers, which is precisely what "gender" does NOT mean in the ideology of the 51 Flavors Left. They can't have it both ways. That one they're going to lose.

Herein lies the problem with bully/cowards

I agree. The current leftist line on “gender” - which insists that biological sex is imaginary - is too nutty to be sustainable.
Most guys like girls, not other guys. Most girls like guys, not other girls. Most guys and girls would like to find a mate and start a family and be together for the rest of their lives. Most of these guys and girls, I wager, tolerate but don’t really approve non-guy-girl marriages, but most of them think gays should not be mistreated and so are tolerant and the gay thing doesn’t affect their lives anyway. Most of these people are not political junkies.
I don’t worry about the sacred institution of guy-girl marriage being pushed aside.

It could only be destroyed by ‘outlawing it’ for those who rely on the state to create marriage for them. As far as eliminating its meaning, that also only works for those who get their definition of marriage by whatever judges, pols or the voting public think it should be at any one time. For many the state hasn’t had the right meaning for centuries.
