ISIS (Sunni) vs Iraq(Iran)Shiite in Tikrit

Posted on 03/15/2015 3:07:49 AM PDT by lbryce

All this, ISIS (Sunni) vs Iraq (Iran-Shiite) mortal enemies from Islam's earliest days have fought this same battle for centuries. The enmity for each other is so intense, they consider each other more abominable than Jews. As an illustration, Iran announced that the first order of business once their nuclear aspirations have been realized was to nuke Saudi Arabia's oil fields, their number one Sunni arch enemy. Notice, Israel is not their first target.

The 'Law of Unintended Consequences' is an unforgiving maiden .George Bush was warned of the genocidal miasma to come if he dared remove Saddam from power. Bush and his neo-con cohorts scoffed at the very idea. They actually said that once Iraq was freed it would have no choice but to open diplomatic relations with Israel simply because the US would demand it. I consider the invasion of Iraq one of history's greatest military blunders. The Bush Administration so very naively, even foolishly believed the power of democracy would banish a thousand years of ingrained hatred, a primitive, backward mentality underscored by the wet dreams of some past glory that never was.

All this, ISIS versus the theocratic terror-mongers of Tehran is the 'Law of Unintended Consequences' come true in the most intense, nihilistic outcome.

Iran, on a winning magic carpet ride ever since the Revolution, will probably continue marching on victoriously by vanquishing ISIS in Tikrit and elsewhere.

ISIS is salafist... is some ways like their apocalyptic views they have more in common with hardline shia than with the average sunni.

The Sunni-Shia divide is overblown.

When the Ottoman empire dissolved, med like Churchill understood the Muslin mindset.

The creation of successor States to the Ottomans kept a lid on the Muslim Jihad
