STATEMENT BY THE PRIESTS FOR LIFE PASTORAL TEAM DEMANDING REGULATIONS FOR ABORTION MILLS IN ALABAMA
Dr. Alveda King's blog ^ | February 10, 2015 | Dr. Alveda King

“We stand with CEC for Life, Life Legal Defense Foundation, Operation Rescue and the National Black Prolife Coalition in demanding that the Alabama Department of Public Health investigate the Central Alabama Women’s Clinic in Selma for suspected violations of abortion regulations.

“The ongoing efforts to address the civil rights of babies in the womb, while ensuring the health and safety of their mothers, the dignity of their fathers, families and their communities are all in keeping with the civil rights struggle of the 20th century which once escalated on the Edmund Pettus Bridge in demonstrations led by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

“In the 20th century, battleground Selma was in the crosshairs of the civil rights movement in a battle to gain equality and human dignity for people regardless of skin color. Today, we again join together in Selma for a critical human rights issue, the right to and sanctity of life.

“At Priests for Life, we firmly believe that all life matters. As we join this effort today, we pledge our support as we invite everyone to ‘Heal the Shockwaves of Abortion,’ as we all do our part in ending the terrible scourge of abortion that often masquerades as ‘women’s rights’ and ‘women’s health care.’ Abortion scatters, healing gathers.

“As a pastoral team, we the undersigned stand with the pro-life leades who are calling for an end to the oppression of under- or unregulated abortion mills that are killing babies and harming their mothers.

“It took years to close down the Gosnell “House of Horrors” in Philadelphia. Let’s not spend any more time closing this travesty in Alabama, and all the slaughter houses masquerading as abortion mills. We pray to God that all abortion mills will close; and that, like Dr. Anthony Levatino who testified at the Silent No More Rally in Washington, D.C. last month, all abortion providers will see the light and end the madness of abortion.“

Dr. King is one of the few civil rights leaders who recognize that abortion is a civil rights issue. Abortion clinics kill far more black males than the police. The old male leaders will protest if a black man is killed after attacking a police officer but not if a woman dies from a carelessly performed abortion,\.

Indeed. But the right to nascent life is far more than a civil right; it is the definitive universal right.

Hear, hear.

It may be argued that being recognized as a "civil right" is a demotion and abuses the dignity of the Constitution, which has already spoken, as the supreme law of the land, about what rights come from whom. Doing so declares that God is subordinate to government. It's no victory for humankind.
