Hilarious! But, a big frightening, too. The forces of ignorance seem to be gathering power.

That gratitude thing... Could be related to the relatively recent practice of giving gifts to teachers at year’s end and/or on holidays. In some liberal districts union teachers can score big with gift cards.

Gifts to teachers have been banned in my town for 50 years.

When I taught school in the 50s it was common.

I don’t know where you get that it is a relatively recent practice.

I don't think school is a bad place to learn values. The point is, what values are you learning -- the values of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution, or the values of Karl Marx and Barack Obama.

As the Federal Government assumes more and more control of the schools, it's the latter.

My school days started in the early fifties and aside from token gifts such as art class candy dishes gifts were not allowed.

And certain nothing on the scale of what is allowed and expected today in my vicinity.

Thw Washington Post (2014) reported that other Washington, D.C.-area districts like Montgomery County, Md., sets a $100 cap per family per calendar year...

In certain areas PTA circulated newsletters with suggestions, most often including favorite gift card types and often act as clearing house for the gift cards IIRC.

Apply that $100 limit to a class size of 30-35 and that starts to be a sizeable bonus for middle and high school teachers who have 6 sets of pupils per day. We’re no longer talking about Whitman Samplers.

Astonishing-——I assumed gifts to teachers were eliminated.
