NYPD Cop killer Ismaaiyl Brinsley was using a traffic app called Waze to track law enforcement’s movements, NYC Alerts tweeted on Monday. According to an available screenshot, Brinsley was tracking two officers who were almost 4 miles away from him in Staten Island at 10:44 PM EST since the beginning of December. He thanks a friend of his on Instagram for pointing out the app is not “updated in real time” so it’s not that “reliable.”

This Breibart article is misleading. The application does traffic mapping and allows users to give others a head-up about what is coming up on the recommended route.

It warns of traffic ahead as well as accidents or objects in the road, red light cameras, and speed traps (if reported).

It doesn’t track anyone except the actual users.

Police show up on the smartphone map after someone notes their location. Subsequent users can report “not there” if the speed trap is not seen, or an accident or obstruction has been removed.

It it very useful for routing you around traffic jams. As far as i can tell, it cannot track specific police or police vehicles.

It is very useful. you might like it.

Its a great app... I also used it while driving in Italy in November. Users alert to accidents and you can see the traffic on adjacent roads if you’re trying to find an alternate less congested road.
