The City of Dallas said Tuesday that the crew took all safety precautions and was isolated and tested following the discovery.

The three members of the ambulance crew are restricted to their homes while their conditions are observed and while the virus' incubation period passes....

So we pull the ambulance from service and quarantine the crew, but are still are accepting flights to and from West Africa. Yeah, makes perfect sense.

“Nip it” LOL very good!!!

I’m not sure isolating them at home is a good idea, unless they live alone. They are still thinking it’s not contagious until symptoms, and I’m betting that’s not really the case.

Isolating at home could well be infecting other family members.

It makes a little sense.
  1. They are more worried about panic and economic consequences than they are about containing the disease. You see this repeatedly when they claim the worst thing we can do is panic. We saw the same thing with SARS. Yet their failure to take aggressive action leads to panic, and somehow they can't see that.
  2. They are more worried about being politically correct than they are about containing the disease. You see this in WHO statements about protecting people's dignity as a reason for not putting in travel protections. Yet their failure to take aggressive travel protections results in people not wanting to travel and travel stocks are now getting killed. Surprised it took this long really.
  3. They are relying on old information. "Not airborne, hard to catch" is based on old weaker strains of ebola. The rate of spread in West Africa, and the number of health workers and ebola doctors that have caught it, demonstrates, this ebola is easy to catch and is somewhat airborne. That old information is getting people killed. Not sure if they are in denial or just spewing old information because they think it will head off a panic.
  4. We are at risk because our country refuses to put in place travel entrance restrictions. It's contrary to the whole immigration/amnesty actions of the last 6 years as well as the failure to secure our borders by mulitple presidents. So it's not completely unexpected. Yet, it's likely to be their downfall, as voters are going to demand the borders be secured.

CDC persons (Director?) today were saying they were “leaning forward” blah blah. I was being sarcastic because I think it’s been handled cavalierly.

So you say this with a straight face:

1. African guy with an accent shows up at some Dallas hospital....throwing up in turbo fashion...fever...and he just gets some marginal medication and sent back home without asking about his recent travels.

2. You announce that you are checking folks coming into the US with a temperature device....which will tell you in an effective way if they have Ebola or not.

I would agree...there’s no real common sense here. Sending US military off to Africa on a mission without an end-date (likely to continue for decades). I don’t see how you allow anyone arriving from outside of the US to enter....without an Ebola test administered and likely forcing everyone to remain in some Airport quarantine area for twenty-four hours as a minimum.

It is like a logarithmic growth phase of bacteria in a petri dish. Sort of like government spending. If this is unable to be checked and stopped all bets are off. The hospitals will be overwhelmed. The economy will fail. It will be unlike anything in the past 1000 years. We shall see if it can be stopped or checked.

It’s even more ridiculous. He tells them he just came from Liberia. This raised no alarms. Then they gave him antibiotics. Antibiotics combat bacteria but do nothing for viruses ( http://www.cdc.gov/GetSmart/antibiotic-use/antibiotic-resistance-faqs.html/#why-bacteria-resist ). They completely missed that he had a viral infection.

“Leaning forward” as in “leaning forward in the saddle” means to think and look ahead and take some preemptive measures to counter a potentially serious situation rather than just reacting as the situation unfolds.

A rider leans forward so as to not fall off the horse when it has to jump over an unforeseen obstacle or dangerous thing along the trail.

He probably didn’t have insurance. They didn’t want to fund his care so they didn’t really look into his condition. Just determined it wasn’t life threatening and send home. They do it every day. Hospitals go broke paying for people’s care.
