Looting involves getting off the couch, putting on your outdoor shoes, and physical activity.
If we called their actions “work”, would the looters be shamed into stopping then resume sitting on their couch at home?
The black chief is getting a hard lesson that his way of dealing with this situation isn’t working.
He wants them to be allowed to communicate... to continue their protest march....but this isn’t about protesting...it’s about chaos and creating it now.
Last night... Apparently A man walked past police and pulled up his T-shirt so it showed off a gun stuffed into his shorts in a warning to get out...... At 12.30am the lines of police on both sides pulled back and reinforcements arrived. Bring guns to a protest and the police are going to handle this a way different way...note the guy using gang hand jestures
Just listening to reporters belly ache and twist the way they were treated by police officers by not being allowed closer to the protesters on one hand...then on the other belly ached that the place they had them wasn’t safe enough.........idiots were aware the police were in the store nearby going after some guy who had broken in.
So sick of CNN and other journalists adding their twist to situations they really aren’t competent to cover because of their own personal bias.
Of course a White person could walk through that crowd and not worry about racism.
LOL
I didn’t see that. So the looters moved on to an easier target.
I did follow a Ustream.tv two nights ago from Oakland. I wanted to see what was happening there because I was able to witness the Occupy protests there three times firsthand. They had some bad characters among them — it’s the birthplace of the Black Panthers, after all.
Last night I watched the live feed from the TV station on the scene in Ferguson. The news crew was clearly frustrated as they witnessed the looting firsthand. Finally the store owners showed up with dogs and guns, and some of the protesters passively helped quell the looting.
Maybe this model of withdrawing the police in hopes of stopping the violence (a.k.a. the Oakland response) has caught on. But just like Oakland, “peace” comes at the expense of all the local businesses.
So the lesson for any business-owner who lives near anyplace with the potential for rioting is: ARM YOURSELVES.
I don’t remember what time that (gun brandishing) happened but I was watching it live on Fox2 News. The newsman narrating was confused at first about who it may have been — I think you are correct in saying he was there to drive off the looters. Some of them were inside when the guns showed up, and a man was overheard saying “get out or you’ll be shot” from inside.
Amazing that there wasn’t a big shootout. So the police got their temporary “peace” (from their point of view) in exchange for the business owners having their livelihoods ransacked.
