By now Ukrainian army liberated 3/4 of territory occupied by rebels early this year. No one has doubt that separatists will lose. They themselves fight against hope. Some rebels fight because they paid, large category fight because they are stupid or have nothing else to do or watch Russian TV. Whatever reason they fight for they know they have no chance to win.., they know it is as certain as a new day comes after long night.

As soon as new city is liberated locals welcome Ukrainian army and first thing they crush Lenin monuments.

When I was watching Crimea, Donetsk and Luhansk referendum I was mostly seeing older or middle aged people waving Russian or USSR flags. Although living in USSR wasn't best time for many of them they were young and youth is what they are really missing. When Putin promise them return to good old USSR he appeals to desire of feeling strong, staying healthy, attractive. This is quite tempting for masses who never trying to think by themselves. It's like Putin is such magician that can return golden days to everyone.., just vote for his agenda and you dream will come true, you will go straight to the past.

Now those poor voters have learned that Putin is a cheat who take advantage of people who stick to the past. Too bad many learned this after their cities reduced to ruins. Now those people, often province idealists, local patriots and unrealistic romantics says - Putin is traitor. If we only knew that he will cheat us we would never go to this referendum!

I'm afraid that won't be allowed. The entire Seattle City Council along with the King County Board of Commissioners hold worship services there every May 1st and on October 25 to commemorate the Bolshevik coup in Russia.

Sorry, old man, but Freedom of Religion and all that. I'm sure you understand.

Then we can commission a new statue based on how he looked after his third stroke.

Then we can commission a new statue based on how he looked after his third stroke.

His third stroke was it? There have been persistent rumors, based on circumstantial evidence and a report by famous scientist Ivan Pavlov, that Lenin may have had the strokes but their underlying cause was that Lenin had syphillis.

Blaming the strokes for his death, the Soviets made huge attempts to cover up whatever lay behind Lenin's erratic, manic behaviour, his bouts of rage and his untimely death.

I know it is not uncommon to attribute various ailments to disliked world leaders, but in Lenin's case, given his psychopathic behavior, it seems a distinct possibility.

Interestingly this proposition was discussed here on FR just over 10 years ago.

I discovered that interesting fact while trying to find the earliest report I read on Lenin's syphilis. I never did find that report but I recall some interesting tidbits from it that have stayed with me all these years.

Lenin was ensconced in a sanatorium during his final years. Due to his constant insane howling all the dogs in the general area were shot as they would begin howling when he did.

The ONLY people who would treat and care for an increasingly repulsive Lenin was a group of Orthodox Christian nuns who were dedicated to caring for the enfeebled.

For their trouble after Lenin's death the nuns were executed so they couldn't talk.

I wish I could have found that many years ago original report from, I believe, a Swiss publication. It was really quite interesting. Perhaps someone else is this generally well informed crowd recalls it.

That is just terrible. I did a quick search but nothing. There must be so much that is totally gone fom the history of that terrible regime. If you ever find any documentation about the nuns, I’d love to see it.
