He surely isn't an expert in irony in that he is being pilloried by the same thought police that he, by virtue of being a rich white guy, helped create and continues to sustain via the political contributions he makes and the pols he supports. The only popular thing he avoided was being accused of being rich.
Had he not been Seinfeld, not as a rich, white guy, that would have been next.
