Republican Tom Pauken: If Wendy Davis runs for governor, she could beat Greg Abbott
Dallas Morning News ^ | 9/17/2013 | Wayne Slater

If Greg Abbott is the Republican nominee for governor next year, GOP challenger Tom Pauken says Democrat Wendy Davis could win. Pauken, the former chairman of the state Republican Party, is a long-shot candidate against Abbott. He says Abbott might look unassailable at the moment, but he’s beatable – especially if Davis decides to run for governor on the other side. At a recent tea party event in Bedford, Pauken told the crowd: “If it’s Wendy Davis vs. Greg Abbott, then she has a 40 percent chance of winning.”

Pauken’s uphill fight underscores a larger tension within the GOP, pitting the party’s social conservative and tea party wings against the Republican establishment. He’s traveling the state meeting with Republican audiences. And as we reported today, one thing he’s finding is that conservative audiences are wary about the prospects of Davis, whose 11-hour filibuster against an abortion bill catapulted her to fame in the Democratic Party. Democrats haven’t elected a governor in Texas since 1990 and experts say the Fort Worth state senator would have little chance of winning the Governor’s Mansion. And the fact that she’s so closely associated with abortion rights probably would help much in a general election in Texas. But Pauken cautions that Davis has certain strengths that Abbott would find hard to counter.

Texas is only Republican for one more gubernatorial election cycle. They already have one Dem Senator.

Wendy Davis as governor would be a nightmare for the Lone Star state.

Texas AG Greg Abbott warmly welcomed Gov. Christie to a Dallas Cowboys game, to bring 'Yankee Values' to Texas.

Why do you guys troll with that nonsense?

If you want to say something can't you refine your words to a more precise accurate statement rather than just throwing out that ridiculous statement in it's various forms?

Nightmare does not cover it at all. I don’t even live in Texas and the thought of her having a legit chance of being governor would make me literally unable to sleep, eat or breathe properly.

Davis is a red herring - wouldn't survive a dem primary - the Austin/San Antonio axis is readying a candidate, they are getting all their ducks in a row to spring on TX when the OFA & union operatives have finished their prep. They've promised a fight and they're getting ready to bring one.

“Texas AG Greg Abbott warmly welcomed Gov. Christie to a Dallas Cowboys game, to bring ‘Yankee Values’ to Texas.”

Here you are again, sitting in China and pushing your boy, Pauken, who was a terrible State Party Chairman and he is over the hill. He will throw up any name to try to diss Abbott.

You are such a POS, take the advice of Ronald Reagan who once said, “Aww, shut up.”

Greg Abbott will be the next governor of Texas and is one fine conservative, guns and all.

They already have one Dem Senator.”

While Cornyn may seem like a Democrat on occasion, he actually has an (R) after his name. Other Senator is Cruz - no doubt about him being a Conservative Republican. So unless I missed something while I slept, do believe you must have us confused with some other state.
