TSA Agent Charged With Human Smuggling; Corruption Epidemic On The Home Front

ICE agents have charged a TSA agent for allegedly allowing Brazilian nationals to illegally enter the United States by not questioning them at a security checkpoint as reported by The Washington Free Beacon.

The greatest vulnerabily in American security involves corrupt officials on the take from drug cartels and other crime groups, and law enforcement has ramped up investigations to root out the dirty players. For example, in the U.S. Customs and Border Protection more than 100 agents have been charged in recent years and another 600 are under investigation as reported by Bob Reynolds for Al Jazeera.

And many are not just casually turning a blind eye to the drugs and illegals coming over the border in exchange for some pocket money. Those charged with defending America increasingly are arming crime groups or becoming their hired guns. The Mexican cartels "are recruiting American soldiers to act as clandestine hit men in the United States, paying them thousands of dollars to assassinate federal informants and organized crime rivals" as reported by Deborah Hastings for the Daily News. And earlier this month an NYPD officer and his customs agent brother were charged for their alleged roles in an international gun smuggling operation as reported by Jim Hoffer for WABC.

The greatest threat to the United States is not some terrorist in the Middle East but a public servant in our own country working for the narco insurgents or other crime crew. Forget about the war on terror, and let's start worrying about the enemy within.

That’s consistent with government at all levels. Corruption is normal, hence the plan by the Founders to keep government limited by size and scope.

OK, there's a hole in the security here:

After you you past the blog post with practically no original content, here's the actual article:

TSA Agent Arrested for Smuggling Illegal Aliens

According to a Justice Department press release, a group of Brazilian nationals were smuggled through the Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Díaz-Torres allegedly allowed the Brazilians through a TSA security checkpoint without questioning them. The group then flew to New York, Boston, and Philadelphia on commercial flights.

What does the TSA have to do with immigration enforcement? They check your ID and your boarding pass. US Customs is responsible for entry to the US.

This was from Puerto Rico. If you fly from PR to the US, is that considered a domestic or international flight?

If it's a domestic flight, does US Customs handle entry into PR? Should the Brazilians have been treated differently because they weren't US or PR citizens?

Thank God the TSA is a federal agency. Heaven knows private airline security wouldn't have kept us nearly so safe.
